"What, you mean they have been in a sort of winter sleep or something?"

 

“Okay.”
I advance, then stand still, waiting for him to drop his guard.

 

“Still involves making that many truly unique strikes. There’s only so many ways to spin a bullet, and I’m not going back to magitech unless my back’s against the wall.”

Like, hibernation? Maybe. They might be dead, too, I dunno. Just felt like that was a relevant warning.

He sighs.
“Let me guess, Stella put you up to this?”

 

Praecantatia sighs.

"I suppose we'll just have to trust in the mortals who have been fighting him since the start, then." Praecantatia says, sounding a little defeated.

 

“I appreciate your concern, but if you find this brief brainstorming bit frustrating, you’d want to off yourself with how stumped we were when we had all six gods still working against his rise.” Idhaenna says, bitter.

 

"We shouldn't be talking about this, we should be relaxing!" Praecantatia pipes up, suddenly sounding positive.

Temporus gives a lazy finger gun from his turntables as the main door to the rave opens. Mortius floats in, accompanied by a new group of demons, quite a few more gelatinous than the other demons at the rave's break. He looks toward Praecantatia and Idhaenna, his cold presence able to be felt a little easier by them.

 

"If it has been in hibernation, we should stay away from it as it is probably very hungry."

 

"Yes, that is, quite literally, what I said."

 

"Would that be the counterpart of my spectral side?" Idhaenna asks, curious about Mortius.

Scurn bolts through the portal, seeming to phase through you as he turns the dial to Xlentia's palace and slips through the resulting portal.

"...I appreciate the attempt, I suppose that's good enough." Stella sighs.

I feel like me telling you that we've walked over its cave a minute ago is a bit pointless now?

 

"OVER?!"

 

Yes, over. It still hasn't moved, though, so I think we're okay.

 

"I hope so for the both of us."

 

"The god of death, yes." Praecantatia says happily.

The demons fan out and start talking with those relaxing on the dance floor. A spider demon and more batlike demon seem to be both carrying large pumpkin-styled buckets, full to the brim with various sweets that may or may not be safe for consumption. Mortius takes a seat next to Idhaenna - or at least appears to.

 

I will let you know the moment I smell it getting closer, if it makes you feel any better.

"He does seem marginally more... responsible... than I am in that regard." Idhaenna says, hololens scanning Mortius.

 

"Yeah. I don't want to get eaten by a dragon, you know."

 

Mortius reeks of death, nothing more than a skeleton missing it's lower half; though his spirit seems to remember a more living form.

Mortius doesn't seem say a word, though Idhaenna seems to remember him speaking, like a distant memory revisited.

"I'm glad you think that way," Mortius says, "The end of life should be taken with as much grace as it's beginning."

 

"You remind me of me before I got tech-crazy." Idhaenna chuckles sentimentally.

Neither do I, but I don't think we disturbed it. I don't think we're heavy enough to make sounds in the caves below.

 

"I'm not a fan of technology. It is unliving, but it has never lived before." Mortius says, sounding almost existential in his cold words.

A few demons, new arrivals and those that were resting, head up to Temporus. A few seconds later, they vanish, presumably sent through time to the active rave.

 

"Dragons have a good sense of smell aswell, don't they?"

"It could have smelled us. Unless it is in fact dead."

 

"He's starting to tick me off more than he already has."

I follow in hot pursuit.
