Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"Oh. Just thinking it's fun that I somehow got back at you without knowing."

 

“I would, if you don’t mind showing it to me.” Gaia nods with a small smile.


“Fancy clothes are a moot craft in a war-torn world. I hate to admit it, but most of my early centuries were spent choking out anyone trying to chase me out of an alley with their own clothes. I’m still not used to having... well... anything, really. Everything’s so nice here, I feel painfully out of place.”

Well, try not to mess with me too much, okay? I cut it out pretty early.

 

Gaia smiles, heading through her immense gardens with ease due to her large form. She never seems to come close to stepping on anyone however, the ground beneath her feet always seemingly clear.

As Gaia heads through her gardens to a large altar surrounded by water, an earth guardian is sent through the ground; leaving a trail like a fallen meteor. He lays there for a second, looking hurt, before shakily getting up and running back in the direction he came from.


"Well, hopefully you won't need to feel the need to do that here. Our kingdom is one of peace, and we won't be far to protect you should you somehow be assaulted." The guard says happily.

 

I stare at him, waiting for a better answer.

 

"Just get some sleep already."

 

Yeah, yeah. I’ll try.

Ten minutes later, it seems your beast form does fall back asleep.

“I’ll agree to no stealing while in the other reality. You can’t expect me to just go cold turkey on this habit.” Scurn grumbles.

“Your children have... peculiar ways of entertaining themselves.” Gaia comments, keeping up fairly easily with her counterpart.


“It’s so strange, really. I feel on edge, like someone’s going to jump me and I’m ready to just spin them up and choke them out... but at the same time, I’ve never been anywhere actually peaceful before. Suddenly I’m... well, here.” She says, laughing nervously at the end.

 

"Well, I don't want to suppress their natural fighting spirit," Gaia says happily, "Though...I've had to exile a few in the past who tried to disrupt the peace of my gardens."


"We'll try to keep any surprises to a minimum to try and help you with that." The guard nods.

 

"Awesome."

 

“Then steal stuff from me, then give it back.”

 

“If I say yes to no stealing in the other reality, will you be satisfied?”

Now you get to wait however long your bestial form naps.

Though you feel a gentle breeze, you can’t do anything other than hear and feel.

“You sound like the three of us back before any of this mess happened... Atavul, O’rogal, and I used to all work together to keep mortals content no matter their demeanor. It... it’s a shame how far we’ve been brought down.”


“I appreciate that, but I still feel terrible for becoming your responsibility.”

 

"Were you brought down because of the mortals?" Gaia asks, close to the altar now.


"All citizens of this kingdom are our responsibility, Miss Amethyst. I have sworn a duty to serve the king and queen, and they have ordered me to keep the people of our fair kingdom protected." The guard says proudly.

 

“Perhaps, but I would change nothing if it means still standing by my children to our bitter end once again. As a goddess of life, I am obligated. As a mother, I am required.” Gaia says, seeming absolutely steadfast in her belief.


“That’s... an awful lot to take on.” Amethyst says, a bit lost in thought.

 

"This.. is quite relaxing."

 

It’s relaxing... until the breeze turns into a gust of wind and a bit of thunder.

 

Gaia changes to her more aquatic form as she steps through the portal that appears in the altar in front of her. Once she's on the other side, however, she immediately falls. Her counterpart can see clear skies through the portal, but nothing else.


"Not at all. I'm not just one guard tasked with the duty of protecting the kingdom, I'm one of many. We each have our routes and shifts so we can protect twenty four seven." The guard says happily.

 

Gaia looks down, a bit uneasy going in blindly.


Amethyst starts to bolt before pausing.
“Wait... what do those numbers mean here? Those used to mean that riot patrols were going to sweep the alleys.”

 

"Atleast I'm nice and dry in here. Thankfully."

 

As Gaia steps through, she finds herself stepping out into thin air as a vast ocean lies below. The waves are calm, and below the surface, a vast coral reef is laid out in front of her. Gaia's aquatic counterpart seems to be sitting beneath the surface of the water, completely unaffected by the lack of breathable air.


"Oh, that's a phrase for always being active. Twenty four hours a day, seven days a week." The guard clarifies.

 

“I’ll be suspicious, but sure.”

 

“Then yes, I won’t steal while we’re in the other reality.”

She winds up tipping over and falling in, her splash making the surface less than calm as a continent-mass worth of golem tumbles down into the water.


“I’ll... try to calm down over it, then. Two was the riot guards, four was where they were patrolling, seven was what I hoped to hear.” Amethyst mumbles. “I suppose I’m still getting used to not having half the laws working against me.”

You hear the gorgon walk downstairs again and a click as you assume she locks the front door. After she comes back upstairs and passes your room, you don’t hear much else than rain and the occasional growl of thunder.
