“Do you remember stealing that many?”
“Buying isn’t stealing.”
“Leaving the shopkeep a singular coin doesn’t constitute buying something.”
“I didn’t mean that time. That was for the window my buddy broke on that heist.”

Is there any, like, ways to tell a snake isn’t dangerous?

Sgavrinn stops humming, looking up at Shadow Stephanie and tilting his head in uncertainty.

 

Shadow Stephanie looks a little lost in thought, before blinking and looking a little more focused. She looks down and gives Sgavrinn a smile.

 

"Not that I know of. Let's just leave it there and try not to awaken it."

 

"Would you like to shed some before someone catches you with ten tens of knives?"

 

"Is that many knives a bad thing?"
"You're probably going somewhere that isn't a crime hole."
"Even more reason to have that many."

How do we even know if the thing's asleep or not?

Considering the snake isn't moving right now, it either is asleep or hasn't noticed you.

Sgavrinn nuzzles her again, though he seems a bit uneasy now.

 

"Or it has and is waiting for the right moment to strike."

 

"What's wrong?" Shadow Stephanie asks, concerned; though doesn't expect a coherent response.

 

Sgavrinn looks around for something, seeming a bit annoyed before growing vines and biting them off onto the floor before arranging them in (somewhat) legible block letters.

CANT FIND WOLF FRIEND
NOBODY HOME”

Can snakes even jump this far? Maybe we should just take a nap... even though I’m not tired...

 

"Wolf friend? Do you mean one of our royal wolves?" Shadow Stephanie asks after reading Sgavrinn's message.

 

"I don't know. I'm not an expert."

 

Sgavrinn shakes his head almost violently, cowering afterwards.

“WOLF FRIEND ON ILAND”

What do you suggest we do, then?

 

"Well, usually, people who have that many knives are out to kill someone. You don't want to give people the wrong impression. Specifically the wrong impression of 'I'm here to kill someone'."

 

"An island? Which island?" Shadow Stephanie asks, curious.

 

"How many knives is the limit between 'I don't trust you at all' and 'I'm here to kill someone'?"

Sgavrinn starts to rearrange the vines before pausing, realizing he has no idea before shrugging.

 

Shadow Stephanie looks a little disappointed, but cheers up quickly.

"That's ok, Artemis will be back soon." Shadow Stephanie says positively.

 

Sgavrinn perks up, mood brightening slightly again as he cleans up the mess he made with his vines.

 

Shadow Stephanie glances around for inspiration, uncertain of how to entertain Sgavrinn.

 

"...Four."

 

"That's not even enough to-"
"Just take your other cloak, damnit." Levi sighs.
"You're telling me to go meet someone who probably wants to brainwash me to stop swiping stuff with only four daggers?"
"You made a deal."
"Damnit, fine. Just this once. I swear, though, I'll gut every damn overgrown worm here if something happens to me!"

Sgavrinn rolls belly-up, looking at Shadow Stephanie longingly.

 

"Not enough to what, stab a god? Yeah, that's kind of the point."
