Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

It seems to be flying straight towards Katie’s palace, though it’s gliding at a fairly low speed. It either doesn’t notice or doesn’t seem to care about the group walking below it.

 

"Katie, there's an invisible dragon flying towards your home." Cel mentions.

"Huh?" Katie asks, pausing her teaching for a moment to look around.

 

“It’s just Mirror.” Kiin says, pointing up towards a recently disturbed cloud.

 

"Mirror?" Katie asks, confused.

 

“She’s pretty nice. She does light and dark magic things, kinda like if mister Aj could use light magic.”

 

"He can, sometimes. I'm not sure how he does it without killing himself." Abigail shrugs.

"I suppose she's not a threat then." Cel says offhandedly.

 

“I serve the Admiral.” Mirror says, alarmingly close to the group. “She is weaker in a land of fire, and she deserves an elder dragon to escort her in such a place.”

Kiin giggles.
“She’s also really good at hide and seek!”

 

"Admiral? Does she mean you?" Abigail asks, looking back at Kiin.

Katie looks a little nervous with Mirror so close.

 

Kiin seems more concerned with Katie’s unease than Abigail’s question.

“Yes, I mean her. The rest of you don’t look like you’ve spent much time on a battleship.”

 

"So...what, you were her mum's dragons or something?" Abigail asks.

 

“Admiral, is she trustworthy?”
“I... sure?”
Mirror sighs, before uncloaking herself.
She’s about Rineth’s size, but her gray scales shimmer like prisms in the sunlight. Noticing Katie’s discomfort, she steps away from her.
“We are an ancient people, one from yet another reality. Like you, a rift opened and connected the two realities we has. Our Admiral made a pact with the draconians of the outside; carry our scepter and shelter our people before we could once again find a safe place to call home. In return, we would offer what we knew and what strength we had to the chosen Admiral. Adm... Kiin, she holds our scepter as her own, and thus my people are hers to command.”
Pause.
“That reminds me, Admiral... we were met with two injured and one dead upon engaging on human ships. We sunk twenty three. Are there any further orders to relay, or are we to return to your home and continue helping with repairs?”
“Uhh... home’s fine, I guess.” Kiin says, still more focused on counting.

 

"As long as you're not a pervert I guess..." Abigail says under her breath.

"How many people came from your reality?" Katie asks, curious yet cautious.

 

"Please do."
I'll follow her lead.

 

"Four thousand, eight hundred and twenty seven... which reminds me, I saw your mother when Admiral first revealed us, but I did not see you. Regardless, I don't expect this place to be where we settle. A bit small, extremely hostile towards dragonkind, and at arms with our goddesses. Despite that, there is an exceptional amount of good here that reminds us of our old home."

She's not in the room yet, though you're free to go towards the back room where you suspect she is.
Except the snake is also in the lobby between you and her, currently.

 

Yeah. I'll wait.
I shall not move until I see her, keeping an eye on the snake.

 

"I think dragons are meant to be nearly extinct here." Katie says, thinking.

"They got hunted for sport." Abigail shrugs.

"Humans." Cel adds.

 

"For sport? Hmph... this planet's version of humanity is foolish indeed. No wonder you spend your days spiting them." Mirror grumbles.

The snake crawls up onto the front desk, curls up a bit, then gets scooped up by the gorgon as she steps out of the back room.
"Okay, come on back. Staircase is in the storeroom." She says, turning around as the snake watches you from her shoulder.

 

"Of course."
I'll follow her, keeping my distance from the snake.

 

"You have humans where you're from too?" Katie asks, surprised.

 

"Yes, but unlike yours they learned from us. Some of us were akin to gods in their eyes, the lesser of us messengers or teachers or even colleagues; but all acted as equals. Together we forged a haven, one where there were no hunters or hunted. Like any haven, it would not last. Two rifts opened in our home; one to our conquerors, one to our Admiral. Our home's version of humanity was far different than yours - they refused our demands for their leaders to join us during our escape. They bought us time; unfortunately, it was only enough for us to retrieve our scepter from their king's dead hand." Mirror says, seeming hurt by the recollection before turning to Katie.
"You in particular remind me of the heiress to the throne. She was such a sweet girl, far too young to die..." She sighs, shaking her head. "A coincidence you share her name."

The gorgon notices fairly quickly, turning the snake away from you.
"They'll only go after birds, relax." She sighs as she closes the door to the back room behind you, turning on the light for the stairwell.
