Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"What thing?" Katie asks happily.

"You brought her along too?" Abigail asks, still surprised.

 

“I wanted to come.” Kiin tells Abigail before pointing to Cel’s laptop.
“That tappy thing.”

 

"A laptop, a portable computer, a device that stores information and performs useful processes." Cel describes plainly to Kiin, not looking up.

"Ihra and Iris aren't with you, are they?" Abigail asks, concerned.

Katie shakes her head.

"Thank god, I had no idea what their problem was but I did not want to be a part of it. Probably some...egg laying dragon thing," Abigail says, trailing off a bit at the end, "Hey, want to grab a hotdog?"

"The hotdogs here are 90% bread filler. It's more a meat flavored bread roll." Cel interjects.

"I saw you eating one earlier." Abigail says, giving Cel a smug look.

"You demanded we go to the arcade so you could blow off steam from some encounter you had on Katie's beach. That was my lunch." Cel responds, looking up from his laptop.

"You secretly liked it. You would've got pizza had you not." Abigail says, smug.

"Touche," Cel says, shrugging, "I'm going to put your chill song on there if you keep up that smug expression."

 

“She called Ihra a lazyass and a useless goddess.” Kiin tattles.

There’s nobody in the lobby aside from the person at the front desk, and the door is open.

 

I'll knock on the door.
"Hello?"

 

"What? No I didn't!" Abigail protests.

Cel gives Abigail a long hard look, lowering his shades to reveal red and blue eyes beneath their respective tints.

"She didn't." Cel says, pushing his shades back over his eyes and going back to his laptop.

"You can be pretty mean sometimes Abigail, I think you might have accidentally hurt her feelings." Katie says worriedly.

Cel nods along.

"It's her own damn fault for misinterpreting insults directed at that dragon asshole! She can't just appear out of nowhere and pretend like I was insulting her specifically!" Abigail says, annoyed at first, though Katie's expression seems to calm her down.

"Language." Cel mentions as he types away.

 

“But she is the stubborn dragon’s goddess, and you called the stubborn dragon’s goddess those things.” Kiin protests.

The man at the desk looks up.
“Didn’t you see the sign? We’re full.”

 

Abigail sighs, putting her fingers to her forehead.

"I meant Xlentia. Since when is Ihra a goddess?" Abigail asks.

 

“Oh, yeah she’s pretty lazy. But I still don’t think you should be talking about mother like that in front of me.”
Pause.
“...I shouldn’t talk like that about mother either, should I?” Kiin asks Katie, looking a bit nervous.

 

"Oh. Alright, thank you."
I'll wave and go back outside.

 

“Have a good day.” He says, waving back.

Well that was pointless.

 

Katie shakes her head.

"I'm just going to go get that hotdog..." Abigail says, looking bored as she heads to the other end of the arcade.

"Wait. Um, I kinda want one too." Katie says cheerily.

Abigail smiles a little, letting Katie follow.

 

Kiin continues looking at Cel as Katie walks off with her clinging to her shoulder.
“You didn’t know she was a goddess? Didn’t she do a lot of stuff that was, you know, kinda silly for a mortal to do?” Kiin says quietly, trying to only be heard by Katie and Abigail.

 

"Yep. Let's hope we have more luck with the seamstress."
And I start walking towards her shop.

 

As expected, there’s a ‘Closed’ sign hanging in the window. Despite that, the light in the front room is on.

 

"I thought she was some kind of demigoddess. The gods of your reality are weird." Abigail says, heading over to a food counter.

"Two hotdogs, please." Abigail says to the guardian at the counter.

"What toppings would you like with those?" The guardian responds.

"Spicy tomato relish and hot sauce on one, and battered with ketchup and a bit of salt on the other." Abigail replies.

The guardian thinks for a moment, "Six gold and five silver please." they say, smiling.

Abigail hands over the money, and the guardian gets to work on preparing the hotdogs.

 

“I don’t think she’s really from my home. She’s super different than the others.”

 

I'll knock on the door.
I'll wait a bit for a respond and will then knock on the window.

 

"I feel like the greater fabric of our very existence couldn't handle another reality being tacked on to ours." Abigail sighs.

Cel walks over, stepping up to the counter with his laptop held tight.

"I thought you said you didn't like the meat flavoured bread?" Abigail asks, looking smug again.

"You guys were getting food and I got hungry again. I'm getting chips." Cel says, before ordering exactly that when the guardian turns to him.

"Ooh, can I have a few?" Abigail asks excitedly.

Cel turns to look at Abigail with an expression that seems to say 'Really?' before turning back.

"I can buy you some chips too if you want, Abigail." Katie suggests positively.

"Don't worry about it, Katie." Abigail says, smiling back.

Katie can't help but smile too, seeming to enjoy the moment.

"I missed this." Abigail says, relaxed.

After a short while, Abigail and Katie get their hot dogs, and Cel gets his chips shortly afterward. The trio head over to one of the few round tables near the food counter, sitting down to eat. Cel sets up his laptop and continues tapping away on it, occasionally pausing to eat a chip.

 

Kiin just keeps silent, seeming entranced by the crystal in her scepter.


Amber slinks towards the human city Abigail 'visited,' checking for any dead to feed on or how many living are in the area.

After the first knock, the door opens as if it wasn't closed all the way.
"I'm closed, what do you want?" The gorgon calls from the back room.
