"Yeah. But I would like to explain it myself aswell."

 

"Wait, I wanna go too!" She protests, chasing Katie.

"She lives in the attic of her shop, so if you want to knock and see if she'll get the door you can."

 

"Yeah, I'll try that. Is there an inn or something I can stay at for the night?"

 

Katie slows down, letting Kiin catch up.

"I'm just going to get Abigail." Katie says calmly.

 

Kiin leaps onto Katie's shoulder and clings to her back, a bit heavy but not enough to knock her over.
"I finally get to go somewhere!" Kiin says happily.

"Not for free." The wyvern shakes their head. "You might be able to convince her to let you stay the night, though."

 

"Are you talking about the owner of the inn or the seamstress?"

 

Katie heads into the cave, traversing it's moist, torch-lit passages before eventually coming out at the top of the cliffs. She looks toward the horizon, and the smoke arising from a distant volcano, before heading towards it.

 

“The seamstress.”

Kiin freezes the ground in front of Katie, letting her skate ahead.

 

Katie smiles, upping her pace and skating across the newly formed ice towards the volcano.

After a couple of hours of skating, Katie and Kiin arrive at a fire guardian town. The air is warm with embers floating about, and Katie seems to begin sweating rather profusely, though she carries onward.

 

"Are you implying something?"

 

Kiin keeps the temperature around them at just above freezing, her scepter seeming to be the source of the temperature drop.

“No, not at all. If you have business there and you don’t have money for an inn, that might be your best bet. Again, most places are closed on weekends, else you might have been able to work for a room.”

 

"Right. Well, I'll see what I can do. Thanks for the tip."
And I start to wander away.

 

Katie heads through the town, fire guardians often glancing at her and Kiin with confused looks. Katie heads toward what seems to be an arcade, a sign out front with a picture of a volcano erupting 1's and 0's.

Once Katie heads into the arcade, she kneels down to let Kiin off her back as she glances around the various game cabinets.

 

As Katie and Kiin enter the arcade, a silhouette of a dragon stops in front of the building before vanishing.

Kiin gets off but keeps practically attached to Katie’s leg, seeming wary of the ambient noise.

“Have a good day.” They say, letting you through.

Should we go straight to the seamstress, or try to find an inn anyways?

 

Katie heads through the arcade, past fire guardians inserting silver coins into machines already full of them, the machines pushing the coins forward and back. Others sit in front of cabinets with colourful guns, firing at monsters on the screen in front of them. Katie eventually finds Abigail dancing on a brightly coloured cabinet, four arrows on the floor beneath her that seem to correspond to arrows on the screen. The cabinet plays fast-paced music, accompanied by lyrics in a different language and a girl on-screen that seems to be dancing along whilst holding an oversized leek. A strange guardian with purple hair and red and blue coloured shades sits next to Abigail, tapping away on a laptop.

 

Kiin climbs back up onto Katie’s shoulder, curiously looking over the purple haired guardian.

 

The guardian glances through his multicoloured shades at Katie and Kiin, looking up from his laptop.

"Abigail. Company." The guardian says flatly, going back to his laptop.

"Just let me finish this song alright, I'm getting close to the high scores," Abigail says, trying to remain focused on dancing on the arrows, "You know I need this after-"

"Don't care what happened. You wanted to come to the arcade to play games, that's why I brought you here." The guardian says.

"Geez Cel, calm down the edge," Abigail says, getting distracted and missing a beat, "Ah, fuck!"

"Mhm," Cel responds, continuing to type away on his laptop, before pausing "Nice to see you, Katie."

Abigail stops dancing and turns around, surprised, missed beats stacking up before the cabinet lets out a loud "Noooooooo!" as the girl on screen falls to her knees as "Game Over" appears.

 

"Keep an eye out while we make our way to the seamstress."

 

“What’s that thing?” Kiin asks, still looking Cel over.

As you walk, you see an inn, but it has a no occupancy sign up. Maybe it’ll still be worth a look?

 

I'll walk over towards it, see if it's busy.
