"Well, I certainly don't know the answer to that question. But yes, I am an 'othersoul'."

 

"Yeah. Alright, let's go then."
I say, as I stand up.

 

Katie shakes her head.

"Don't worry." Katie says calmly.

"Well, at least I don't look like the bottom half of a water guardian," Abigail responds, narrowing her eyes, "And thank god I don't smell like one too."

 

"I must admit, you're nowhere near as graceful either." They retort flatly, still not bothering to make eye contact.

"But if it's not in the right place, mum will find out!"

"You seem more like old tech to me, and Idhaenna hates othersouls too much to work on their robots. Another realm, maybe, but I don't think you're from another reality."

Nothing stops you, though there seems to be a bit of fog rolling in.

Why is it that whenever we wait a while the weather starts to go bad?

 

"Well, at least I have the option of changing between a dragon and humanoid form, rather than being stuck as a weird fusion of the two." Abigail says smugly.

"It's going to be fine." Katie says, smiling.

 

"I was thinking the same, yeah. Maybe it's because we fought that Ziz and now she's angry?"

 

“You’ve done more research into it than I have.”
I shrug.

 

They stand up, tail growing as they turn into a full-on dragon with heavy crystalline wings pulsating with lava.
"Let me guess, your dragon form is nothing more than a ball of rage. It makes you stronger, faster, tougher, but you become none the wiser. It takes over only when you allow it and you use its wrath as a weapon. You keep it as a slave, as another body to take punishment you could not stand to bear." They say calmly, before turning to Abigail with a six-eyed stare.
"How wrong am I in that assumption?"


Kiin hugs Katie again, seeming to finally calm down a bit.
"Thanks for coming home, sis."

I thought fighting her made her calm down or something. I mean, isn't that the whole reason we fought her in the first place?

Scurn sighs.
"Do you know the difference between a realm and reality? A reality has different rules, different gods. A realm may be a different place, but it adheres to the same basic rules of existence as the rest of the reality it's in."

 

"People can hold grudges. But the rain isn't hurting anyone, so I can't complain all too much."

 

"Fairly, because dragons like you deserve the punishment I give. Even taking the form of a dragon isn't keeping it as a slave it's less than that" Abigail says almost as if reciting something, staring straight at the dragon with no fear at all.


Katie hugs Kiin back, calm and happy.

 

The dragon glances off to the side for a moment, then back at Abigail.
"...No, those aren't your words. Too thoughtful, too intentional. You believe them, though, that we're nothing more than monsters. How hypocritical. How... human." They challenge.

"So, how big of a ship should I get for us?" Kiin asks.

Fair. Besides, you're the one out anyways, it's not like you smell like wet wolf in the rain.

The sand starts sticking to your feet as you leave the beach, but only just enough to be annoying.

 

"Do you want to be out for a bit? I had a discussion with Rema about how it might be better to let you out more."

 

"At least if I'm more human than dragon, I'm not part of a nearly extinct species!" Abigail says with a slight hint of pain in her voice, almost as if she regrets what she's saying for the sake of insult.


"Just a normal one, we don't need anything huge." Katie says cheerily.

 

The dragon frowns, giving Abigail a curious look.
“If you wish to embrace the sliver of draconic blood in you, why do your best to alienate us?”

Well...

Pause.

...Yeah, I guess. Rain won’t hurt me.

 

"Hey, I get it if you don't want a wet fur. It was just a suggestion. I can let you out when we are inside of a building or something with a roof if you'd rather have that."

 

"I'm not like you. We're from different realities." Abigail says bluntly, though her words seeming to lose strength.

 

“Of course, I’m speaking using words. You’ve allowed our kin to turn feral, and I suggest you don’t water the seed that your kind may have also contributed to their degradation.” They challenge.
“If you were more than a trace of our kin, you would know what respect means. Your demands are human; your insults, human. If you wish to stray from becoming your enemies, do not alienate your friends.” They say flatly, staring straight at Abigail.

Kiin glances over.
“Sis, why does Abigail insult everyone?” She whispers.

I can handle it... but at the same time, I hate needing to bathe. Maybe... maybe you can just wait until we get inside.

 

"Better they're feral so they know how to shut their damn mouths," Abigail says, strength restored as she stares straight back with a piercing evil, "Gaia made me the way I am, and I'm happy with that. At least I have a goddess to look up to, instead of some cardboard facade that any mortal can come and mind control. All your kind does is sit around jerking each other off with your 'wisdom' and act surprised when someone who doesn't have a chimney up their ass goes and does something!"


"I don't know. She's rude to people so they don't hurt us, but she's nice to the people she cares about," Katie says happily, "I suppose that's just how she is."

 

"As did yours when the humans turned on you." They say, unmoved. "At that, where is your god? On the front lines helping you solve your problems, or sitting back offering you encouraging words and a second wind when you stub your toe?"

"So if a human catches me I need to make them feel bad and they'll let me go?" Kiin asks.

 

"She's a better goddess than yours. What do they do? Sit around in piles of money? Fuck off to some spacey-spectral plane? Sit around in the burnt remains of their shitty kingdom? At least I know Gaia will always be there to fall back upon, rather than getting shot through the head when she gives all her power over to the enemy like brainless, uncaring martyr!"


"Um...I think Abigail's better at being mean to people than a lot of others can be." Katie says, smiling.
