“You could make a horror film out of that concept.”

 

“I meant out here, as in this realm. Unless Earth is this hostile as well?”

“To be fair, there’s a lot of shit you could make a horror film out of nowadays.”
Scurn takes a sharp turn you definitely aren’t flexible enough to make.
“Keep moving forwards, there’s an exit point big enough for you up ahead. I have to unlock it, though.”

 

I keep moving forward.

 

"Even in the dream world? They just thought it was my dream form, I believe."

"But, on the other hand, I don't think it will do much to let my werewolf form out in the dream world."

 

"Earth is hostile, but not as deadly. More...they're driven by intelligence rather than instinct." I say.

 

“Am I mistaken, or did you just insult your own people?”

“It may wander around there when it rests. I don’t know, I never got to see for myself.”

The tunnel widens and turns upwards, a click reverberating through the water as Scurn wedges the hatch open.
...With your sword.

“Sorry about that, I lost the crowbar I kept around here in a fight.” He says, offering your sword back as you emerge.

 

"If I had eyes, I'd roll them."
I take my sword back and look around.

 

"My own people aren't the ones trying to kill and eat everything they see moving. The beasts out here aren't like the people in the cities." I clarify.

 

“Is everyone out here just considered feral and beyond salvation?”

You seem to be in a fluid injection lab of sorts.
“What, are those just glassy screens?”

 

"My gut tells me that you'll try your best to steal them if I tell you. Now, where are?"

 

“If I wanted you for parts, trust me when I say you wouldn’t have made it out of that pipe. We’re in the one functioning civil facility left, mostly because you didn’t bother ripping up the ground five stories deep. We abuse the emergency override for the portal back to the palace, and I’ve already got the runes to get us into Levi once we’re there.” He says, heading over to a terminal and ripping off a service panel off.

 

"'Into Levi'? Did I hear that right?"

 

"Oh, that's a possibility. Sounds logical, sort of."

 

"We've tried to save them in the past. Some have been able to come back to society to a degree, but they're not the same as everyone else. They've eventually exiled again once they start consuming people in the street," I say, "And with the deal we made with the guardians, they'd rather not have to deal with feral Shadows when they visit."

 

“Yes, you did. Would you stop worrying and just get ready to run?”

“Shame. I’m admittedly a bit curious on how they perceive things.”

“I mean, technically it’s like your second half is asleep, and if it’s asleep then it could dream.”

 

"Nothing more than an extremely dangerous wild animal, really." I say.

 

“Sure.”
I say, a tad exasperated.

 

"Probably? I never spent too much time thinking about it. Never even bothered to ask, really."

 

“No, below that. Behind that. You can know what’s on the outside, but only they can tell you what’s on the inside. That’s my job - get beneath the paperwork, the attitudes, the instincts. That’s also why Emerald got me fired from being a diplomat and took me in on her projects.”

“If you manage to find people who recognize you, you could ask... or maybe your dragon friend?”

“Fine. While we wait for the signal, you’re going to get swallowed by Levi. I didn’t have a hard drive, so I hooked up everything I stole to Levi. He is an actual leviathan, and whatever was in that box is installed on him. He’s kind of our base of operations, and if you get him killed you better watch your back because I promise I’ll be coming after you.”
