“I’ll have the others put the cover back. Come on, the portal was sealed off once you broke the barrier. Hopefully you’re good at trailing armies without getting caught up in things.” He says, starting to swim ahead of you.

 

"I'm not terrible at it."
I swim close to Scurn, but far enough away to not mess up his swimming.

 

"Probably because they'll destroy the world around them while they destroy themselves. It's a lot harder to rebuild from total destruction than it is mitigate the damage and weaken the threat." I say.

 

“Fair enough... though if you don’t mind me asking, how long has that problem dragged on?”

“You sound as if you’re used to it by now.”

Based on the narrowing tunnel and your lack of a finned tail, you might want to hope your jet boots work underwater.

 

"Only about...five hundred years?" I say.

 

"That's what I mean. If it doesn't appear, how am I supposed to break. I can't see it."

 

I silently hope that, intent on using them when I need to.
"You can't really get into a lot of fights when everyone and everything is just going to kill you without question."

 

“No wonder you don’t call it a war. If you don’t mind me throwing in my two cents, the humans are fully dedicated to defending their existence at this point. You might not have gotten to the point where the conflict has spanned more than a small part of one generation, but after two full generations of conflict a race tends to gear themselves wholly towards said conflict. They’re not ruining the planet to benefit themselves at this point, they’re trying to return their perceived favor. Given their shorter lifespans, and the fact that you’re now probably about six or seven generations in... those humans aren’t even human anymore, per se.” Arkclal rambles.
“...Ah, damnit. I didn’t wait for your permission, there, did I?” He asks, embarrassed.

“What, do you not have some special weird thing that helps you even the odds?”

“You can only break it in the real world. Obviously you’re correct, you can’t break something that isn’t there.”

 

"Okay. So I break it to find my way back here then?"

 

"Permission? What do you mean?" I ask, confused.

 

“You are king here, more than that the absolute ruler. I have no business commenting about your reality or your affairs, especially as an unaffiliated diplomat.”

“Pretty much. Break one end and you’ll warp back here.”

 

"Eh, you haven't said anything offensive yet, so I'll hold off on any executions." I say casually, smirking.

 

“In fairness, you’ve technically executed me three dozen times. At least.” He chuckles.

 

"Hm, good on alternate timeline me for being so murderous I guess." I say, proud.

 

"Usually, it's the fact that I'm made of metal, and that metal tends to be tougher than skin."

 

"So, should I break one now?"

 

Arkclal pauses for a bit.
“Most of them were from inquiring about your love interest, or more specifically me forgetting to lead with Emerald telling me about you from time to time and mentioning you refuse to get married.”

“No, you’re right here.” Rema sighs.

“What, do you just get caught up with armor piercing weapons?”

 

"I think one of us is missing the point."

"In order to find my way back to here while I'm in the dream world, I would have to break the star. But I can only break the star while I'm in the real world. So how am I supposed to break it while in the dream world? Because you just told me it doesn't appear in the dream world."

 

"Then tend to be the go-to where I'm from. Which, to be fair, is far, far away."

 

I narrow my eyes.

"Is that a problem?" I ask.
