Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

The forest guardians welcome the thorns, wrapping themselves in more and turning themselves into giant thornballs that begin barreling towards Chroma; picking up the splinters as they go.

The air guardian protects his eyes with his wings, though hinders his ability to attack accurately. He boosts the forest guardian's speed with gusts of wind, making them far faster.

 

Chroma's eyes turn brown, stone pillars catapulting the forest guardians to the sky before they catch fire from focused sunlight from his tail prism and rapidly burn thanks to the splinters. He throws more pumice at the air guardian the moment they try to use their wings to cover their eyes, in part using the gusts of wind given to the forest guardians to increase their velocity.

 

The pumice is reversed by unseen earth guardians, and the air guardian's attention is directed to helping the forest guardians fall slowly; seeming mostly unscathed from the fire.

 

Chroma ignores the pumice, continuing his rush towards Abigail's volcano.

 

Not much stands in Chroma's way, the guardians unable to affect him or distracted.

 

Chroma tries to enter Abigail’s house, blinking past the likely locked door.

 

Abigail seems to be sitting in her living room, reading a book. There's a short beeping sound as Chroma enters, though she doesn't seem too bothered by it. She even looks relaxed, simply reading her book in peace despite the warning sound.

 

“Regardless if this is a trap and a mere illusion, I’m sorry for what I did to you.” He says, eyes no longer glowing.

 

Abigail doesn't respond, perhaps still offended at what Chroma has done.

 

Chroma turns towards the door, checking if anything is rigged to it. If not, he checks for life signatures of guardians outside.

 

There seems to be a mage crystal attached to the door, but there isn't any magic stored in it. The guardians life signatures seem to have vanished, too. Abigail keeps reading her book, trying to ignore Chroma.

 

“I came to ask for your help.” He says, seeming on guard. “The resistance needs you. I can’t be allowed to win this war.”

 

Abigail continues to be silent, not even looking at Chroma from her living room sofa.

 

Chroma checks what looks like Abigail for a life signature, sighing.

 

There doesn't appear to be a life signature at all. It's not surprising upon closer inspection, Abigail revealed to be nothing more than a pumpkin with an extremely smug face carved onto it with an orange wig on. A couple of sticks hold up her book, while a folded note seems to be resting atop a strange black box. "Chroma" is written on the note.

 

Chroma reads the note, glancing back at the mage crystal on the door.

 

It still seems to have no magic in it.

The note reads:
"Dear Chroma,

Thank you so much for stopping by! I've decided to leave a little present for you. It didn't come cheap, either! By the time you're reading this, the enchantments on my house to drain and nullify your magic once inside should be in full effect, the mage crystal that would've originally paralysed you upon entry should be completely ineffective. Inside the present I've left you is a special kind of bomb that completely eradicates living matter within it's radius while leaving the surrounding area intact. It should've already begun counting down when you set off it's trigger upon entry, and the guardians I used to stall you have evacuated to a safe distance. You could try to defuse it, but if you fail, you'll just set it off instantly! Don't try chucking into my volcano either, that'll make it explode too.

It took me ages to get all the money to afford this kind of bomb, so please, die for me.

By now, you've spent long enough reading this note you've probably got less than 30 seconds to get out of the blast radius. Good luck!
-Abigail."

 

"Living matter, huh...
...heh."
Chroma snaps his false tooth and takes the thirty seconds to write a return note.

"Abigail,
How much did the bomb cost? I'll refund you full price for it, or Lady Xlentia also probably owes you a fair bit of gold.

I came by to ask for your help and apologize, though I must admit I am impressed with just how much you went out of your way to get rid of me.

Sounds like time's up. See you soon!

When the bomb goes off, Chroma is little more than a sealed rock without so much as a soul.

 

The bomb explodes in a blue light, though not much but insects and a couple of unfortunate lizards are wiped out by it.

A short while after the bomb, a Shadow and a guardian with crimson hair and blood-red eyes, somewhat similar to her companion's, unlock and enter Abigail's home.

"Looks like she managed to get the job done..." The Shadow says, glancing around.

"Come on, we're not gonna get paid if we don't do our own jobs." The guardian says.

The Shadow takes out a box of cigarettes and a lighter from his jacket, lighting one for himself. He takes a drag on it, before blowing smoke through his nose.

"Yeah, but he ain't here. No need to rush, Hound." The Shadow says.

 

Chroma listens in from his seal, though still appears as a lifeless rock. The shadow would have to try and possess the rock for the duo to figure out he's still around.
