Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"Calm down, will you?"

I leave the cave.

 

Okay

 

"...Yeah."

I quickly chase after the one that's left.

 

Ihra giggles, but shakes her head.
"I appreciate it, but I don't have a hoard or anywhere to keep it. Besides, you're the one with a palace." She says, smiling.


Chroma sighs.
"At this rate, you're gonna hurt an innocent as collateral damage before you hurt me..."
He keeps walking towards the volcano, the boulder upon impact doing little more than making him blink.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm so so sorry... I promise, I'll never do it again!"

Shack sighs.
"Well, that'll be fixed come morning."
"How much did you tell them?" Fireweed asks, a bit suspicious.
"...Enough."


It stops just short of a portal.
"Heh... hoo... haven't had to run in a while..." It mutters. "Thirteen... right?"

 

"Never do it again?! You shouldn't have done it in the first place!"

"How can I trust you after this? How will I know you won't use it again."

 

"B-But, you helped me so much! I...I don't think I could've done it without you to guide me..." Katie admits, feeling guilty.


More boulders come his way, slowly increasing in size and trying to knock him down.

 

"You're forgetting someone." Ihra snickers, glancing at Katie's chest.
...She's still wearing the voidling's charm.


The size of the boulders doesn't seem to change their effectiveness, though he continues on anyways.
"Stop beating around the bush. Use light magic, what you're doing now isn't going to work." Chroma calls.

Anne pauses, still hyperventilating.

After you reach the surface again, she seems to have somewhat collected herself.
"...You know what? Fine. Pardon me for fearing for my life when you were chasing me." She growls, leaping off your shoulder.

 

Katie glances down, before offering the riches to the voidling.

"Here you go!" Katie says happily.


There's a pause, and Chroma can hear what seems like muttering coming from the source of the boulders. A few moments later, Chroma is hit with an arrow of light, a flare following it as a winged figure in golden armour flies above him.

"Leave our town and it's residents alone!" The air guardian shouts, a dim arrow charging with light in their bow.

 

Crystal nervously glances at Linoa.


“That’s me.”
I nod, landing next to it.

 

"Too big..." It says, waving off Katie's offer.


The arrow causes his crystals to shatter and knocks him prone.
"Kill me, and I'll be back. Hear me out, and I might not be." He grunts. "I suspect you believe I am here hunting a child and the fire guardian who gave it shelter?"

Puddles glances at Crystal worried, Fireweed shooting her a quick glare.
"You know we can't just trust outsiders." She growls.
"These two are different." Shack snaps.
"That was supposedly the case last time."

"Cut it out. If you need to pretend we're not here to get along with your lives, then do that." Linoa interrupts, blunt.


"Well... I suppose it's a big day for you then, huh? I never thought I'd get to see one of Lady Idhaenna's creations in person."

 

Crystal just stays silent, clearly a bit scared.


"Recreation, technically, but all the same."
I clarify with a careless wave of the hand.

 

Katie puts the currency back in it's bag, before taking out what looks like the most valuable gem and offering it to her tiny companion.


"We just know you're a terrorist harassing the innocent people of our town! We've heard the reports about you." The air guardian says, arrow now charged and aimed at Chroma's head, at an angle that'd attempt to pierce into his heart too.

 

"You have all the reason to do so. Looking back, I was thinking you were going to attack me."

 

The gem is still about the size of the voidling. Pretty much everything in the bag is its size or larger.


Chroma smirks before sighing.
"If I'm truly as much of a scourge as you say, why would I willingly tell you my weakness? Say I was as petty as you claim, would I not have attempted to retaliate in response to your attacks? It is true you have no reason to trust my every word, but I hope you at least have taken note of these anomalies."

"Seriously? I mean, sure, I burnt a few hairs when your pack jumped me in the middle of a nap, but I was just trying to pass through."

Linoa takes a step back.
"Look, I get that you've got a bad history with outsiders. Is there any way for you to stop being on our case this much, Fireweed?"
"Give it a day. The rock I can accept, but anyone with a weapon is a hunter in my eyes."


"Ah, another full conversion. It's rare for her to let anything that goes through her factories keep any inkling of magic tie, though..."

 

Katie tries to find a way to repay the voidling for it's services, without making it impossible for it to carry. She eventually gives up, petting the voidling with a smile.


"Leave us alone, before we make you!" The air guardian simply responds, clearly not looking to chat.

 

"Linoa's not bad."
Crystal tells Fireweed.


I shrug.
"She can do what she wants."

 

"If you were in danger, it would have been normal to fight back atleast. I already knew what you are anyways."

 

It seems confused, but accepts the pets.
Its carapace is smooth; it feels somewhat like petting a river rock.


"...Do you really want a god of war to ravage your city? I am the one reason he hasn't come here yet."

"I didn't know if I could fight off a werewolf. That's why I used the spell."

"Give it a day." She reiterates.


"I mean... she does. It's just... usually not particularly good."

 

Katie seems to like petting the voidling, though stops after a short while.

"What should we do now? Other than getting this treasure home." Katie asks, happy.


"Is that a threat?" The air guardian asks, seeming ready to fire at any moment.

 

"Up to you." Ihra says. "I'm gonna try to find Artemis and Abigail, General Chroma wormed out of his mind control and is seeking help. He isn't the nicest person around, but... he's got a good heart. He means well, he just isn't good at anything other than fighting."


"No, a warning. I'm not gonna be like this if you send me back to the mind control chamber." Chroma snaps. "If you fire, I'm not gonna willingly come back. I'm also not gonna keep lying to his face that things are under control. If you think I'm a pain in the ass, you'll hate... him."
