Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

Mortius takes the tooth, looking at it confused.

 

“I know it’s nothing compared to what you went through, but mother kept me in caves for the first century I was alive. I couldn’t ever see, but after a while I would leave a loose tooth, shed scale, claw trimming, or a dead root laying around to see if I ever was left in the same place twice. The answer to how many times I woke up to a familiar setting is in your hand.”

“I could try to gather some of the shells, but once they’re abandoned they get brittle fairly quickly.”

 

"That was the initial plan."

 

"I see," Mortius says, putting the tooth in his cloak, "I wish I could've had such luxury in the depths of hell."

 

“Well, what if you had, like, a lot of them together?”

 

"Does it hurt going back to... the way you usually are?"

"I don't know, I feel like they'd still break too easily to use most of the time."

Well, I guess we could play a game o-

A raindrop hits you on the nose.

...Anne won't be happy about that.

 

Mortius shakes his head.

"Not like it used to. Ga...Grace is the only one keeping me like this." Mortius says, looking at his hands; almost in regret.

 

"No. She won't."

"I wonder how she survived so long. Rains are pretty common."

 

Ihra looks Mortius in the eye again.
"I promised people at home I'd defeat the hive master first, but after that I'll do what I can to help you. Before any of that, though..." She says, glancing towards where she was moving as she trails off.

I guess she could stay in a den or something? Or maybe she has clothes that are waterproof.

 

"I highly doubt that."

 

“What if you had then shells and then also rocks?”

 

Mortius changes back to his larger size, before he offers his now larger hand.

"She won't let you through." Mortius says, gesturing for Ihra to step on to his hand. Since he's alive, stepping on seems a lot less disturbing than it normally would.

 

Ihra does so without hesitation.

"Wouldn't the rocks grind up the shells from the inside out?"

Maybe she can use some magic to stay dry, too. She can't have stayed inside for every single second it's been raining.

 

Crystal shrugs.
"I dunno."

 

"I mean... I guess I can try it sometime. Just, not tonight."

 

"Okay!"

 

Mortius picks Ihra up and swiftly hides her in his cloak, dropping her into a pocket just as big as she is. While she can't see much, she can feel Mortius move and the air around her change. Just as quickly as Ihra was put in, she's taken out from Mortius' cloak and placed on overgrown grass in what seems to be the purest, most rich source of life available. Gigantic trees surround her, forming a circle around a meditating Gaia.

 

Ihra looks towards Gaia nervously before glancing back at Mortius, taking a deep breath before turning back to Gaia and slowly approaching the ring of trees.

Shack starts picking up his pace.
“I don’t want to keep the others waiting. Landslide in particular is... scary when angry.”

 

Mortius follows along beside Ihra, and Gaia's eyes spring open as soon as Ihra gets close.

 

Ihra kneels in front of Gaia, dropping her staff and looking Gaia straight in the eye.
“You didn’t deserve any of it. None of us could’ve known...” She says, fighting back tears. “...none of this is right. I’m sorry, and I know that will never be enough.”
