Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

I'll trail behind her.

 

“It’s best you stay somewhere else, to be frank. I don’t know if he’ll hold back on Gaia’s empowerment twice, nonetheless siphon strength from Atavul to overwhelm it entirely. Then again, I don’t know exactly what he’ll do... it’s up to you, anyways.”

A bit of the dirt sticks on your fingers, making them a bit of a darker color.

You wind up being lead in a full circle around the park before she heads down an alley, stopping in front of three small gravestones.
“Oh, wonderful, it’s their memorial now.”

 

"Oh, so they did find the bodies?"

 

"Honestly I'll just give him the phoenix." Abigail shrugs. Strangely, her next blink seems to come out as a subtle wink.

 

“I mean, if that’s what he’s after you for then that’d get him out of your way.”

“I doubt it. They probably just took some random ashes from the fire and called it close enough.”

 

I laugh.

"Would be hilarous."

 

"I don't see what's so important about it anyway, it's just a dumb bird." Abigail shrugs.

 

I sit back in my seat, deciding not to question it.

Meanwhile, Keila's plastic orb lights up once more.

 

“I mean, they cared enough to make a memorial here. They clearly didn’t find it funny... but yeah, I’d be interested to see what ashes they actually put here.”

Buddy eventually tires of running around and sits next to you, panting heavily.


She takes it out of her pocket, slightly impatient.

“Is there anything special about it in particular, or is it just a phoenix?”

 

"Some phoenix woman gave it to me that bird-brain killed afterward. It eats meat, instead of what phoenixes usually eat." Abigail says casually.

 

I pet him as I look around for a source of water.

"Oh, hey."
Voidfiller says from the other end.
"You're up."

 

"Let's not waste too much time here. Mourn about their deaths if needed, but I'm gonna head around town."

 

“Ah, yes, they hate escapees. They burned down Gaia’s temple, probably best they don’t try to cover Earth in ash.”

“Screw them.” Anne grunts, hopping back onto your shoulder.

There’s a fountain on the other side of the park, Soul and Lune drinking out of it.


“I’ve been up for a while.”

 

“Go get water.”
I encourage Buddy.

“Is everything, uh, okay, over there?”

 

"So.. Who would know the most about charms that allow you to see spirits..?"

 

"Well, it's happened in the past, apparently," Abigail mutters to herself, "Why would they be so interested in an unhatched child though?"

 

"Maybe one of the churches? They'd at least know stuff about spirits."

He seems more interested in getting pet.


"I mean, this part of the world's still intact... but I haven't really seen anyone come or go from the Darklands."

"As sick as it is, it's essentially for breeding soldiers. Let nature help filter the strong from the weak, then raise them all to know nothing but war from their first memories on. The result is an ever-expanding army of often emotionless warriors who keep no friends and leave no enemies." Amber explains. "If they start out cared for to any extent, like... well, normal children, they're a lot less likely to put up with Atavul's game."

 

"Worth a shot."

I'll look at the skyline and see if any church towers are visible.

 

There's a single belltower visible a few blocks out past what looks like a neighborhood.
"Maybe there?"

 

"Looks like a church, yeah."

I'll try and find my way to the belltower.
