Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"I do not give to takers... rest your finger on the jewel if you've a change of heart.” The voice says.

“I’ll keep an eye out once winter rolls around.” Rema nods.

 

Katie does as told, if scared, placing her finger on the jewel gently.

 

Her vision is replaced with someone else’s, her senses no longer her own.

A dragon clad in golden armor lowers his head towards Atavul.
“Well, you’ve neither the child or blood on your hands. Are you asking for another cycle?”
“No, master. I do not think one could find a more incompetent mother. She seems unable to manage herself, nonetheless the child granted refuge in her house.”
“So, you don’t think it will make it?”
“Of course not. The child’s soul is still ours, its body will be ours once that pitiable excuse of a woman lets the child die.”
“If this turns out to be true, you are not to return without her. Soul, remains, strength, everything. O’rogal has everything to ensure you keep your kill - don’t mess it up.”
The dragon stands again, opening a portal.
“When lives are on the line, everything goes.”
“Good. Dismissed.”

The vision ends, Katie exactly in the position she was prior to touching the faceted gem.

 

Katie glances at the letter again, before running out of the house, quickly saying goodbye to Kiin.

 

"Alright. I'll be leaving to town then."

 

"Well, I know barely anyone here, I don't really know what anything can do, I don't know about any sort of schedule, all I know is what I'm supposed to be doing, eventually."

 

Kiin waves at her once, a bit confused.

Rema nods.
"Be careful."
"I want to come into town too. I'm assuming I won't get chased off if I'm on your shoulder."

"That's... so Idhaenna. I'd be lying if I said I knew more details than you do, but checking with Stella is pretty much the starting point for everything."

 

Katie stops, before turning around and running back to Kiin, giving her a hug.

"Be good, I'll be back soon." Katie says, smiling before dashing out again.


A long while later, Katie arrives at Abigail's volcano, looking for any signs of the people she saw in her vision.

 

There’s a set of draconic footprints leading up to Abigail’s front door and a few bloody phoenix feathers laying around.

 

Katie runs down to Abigail's house, trying to open the door.

 

The door is either locked or unlocked, depending on Abigail’s reaction to prior events.

 

Katie pounds on the locked door, hoping Abigail will hear.

 

A small fae watches her from afar, not particularly well hidden among the rocks.

 

The faerie catches Katie's eye, Katie walking over to it to see what it is.

 

"The shapeshifters probably don't mind."

 

"See, that's the catch: I don't know how to do that."

 

Upon arrival, Katie can see a tiny backpack left behind and an equally tiny rush of wind pointing towards a rock stack.

“Do you not have a shortcut to the uplink?”

“Weeeeell... they might not if I’m on your shoulder.” Anne says with a nervous smile.

 

I shrug.
“I might.”

 

"Why would they mind if you're on my shoulder?"

 

Katie delicately picks up and inspects the backpack. She first attempts to use small ice hands to not damage anything, but seeing them melt above the heat of an active volcano, she just picks it up normally; albeit sweating a lot.
