Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"Worst case scenario, she got ambushed in an area where here telekinesis was nullified."

 

"Could she get killed?" Katie asks, scared.

 

Rineth looks away.
"...It's possible, depending on what got nullified."

 

Katie looks worried, seeming unready to hear any bad news.

 

"This will probably sound harsh. But this is none of my concern."

 

Curious, I walk towards the town.

 

Rineth keeps quiet.

"It's everyone's concern, unless you want to become his slave."

Your dog walks obediently beside you, and the path to town is apparently about half a mile long.

The town seems rather normal, if not small. However, Thirteen seems to be waiting for you as he hangs upside-down off a lightpole.
"Getting a bit adventurous, are we?"

 

Katie stays silent for a bit, trying to calm herself down.

Outside, Rineth can hear people passing, most likely another patient being taken into a nearby room.

 

“When people don’t tell me things, I figure it’s good to learn by myself.”
I comment offhandedly.
“What’s with you and being upside-down?”

 

"Tail is full-auto, uses less energy than standing around and a bit more comfortable than laying down." He shrugs.

 

“Fair enough. Why are you here?”

 

“Percrulum, the simulated world each ship has within its hull. I’m in the same ship as you, so you’ll find me here occasionally... also, a giant mansion materializing on a previously nonexistent hill sort of tipped me off to your presence. Once you left, I figured I’d wait to see if you would come into town, considering your curiosity. Not all that hard to predict, frankly.”

 

"Fair enough."
I look around.
"Is anybody else here?"

 

“Probably. Not too many, as Idhaenna overcompensates overtime, but there’s just about always a few dozen strewn about.”

 

"Where's this lead?"
I gesture in no particular direction.

 

“Depends on who makes a path. You might stumble across my jungle, or the one weirdo’s nuclear reactor.”

 

I chuckle.
"What 'one weirdo'?"

 

"As if I could go up against a god. I'd rather live my life until the end, then go and throw it away trying to fight someone I already know I can't beat."

Rineth glances at the door, but doesn’t say or do anything else.

“That’s where you’re wrong, but I can’t force you into the conflict myself. But be warned of false prophets; you can fall under his spell without knowing it, until of course you find yourself suddenly near death in a totally different place.”

“One of the crew straight up lives in a nuclear reactor. That’s enough to warrant the name in my eyes.”
