"I wouldn't be so sure... if any part of you is magical, he can shut your body down. Your best bet would be to recreate the cataclysm that caused Idhaenna to pursue devastating technologies... but I would be wary around her. She hides much of what she knows and what she has, paranoid someone will once again seek her life. At this point, I feel pity for anyone who tries, even Atavul." The Matriarch sighs.

"That has to be why he's a pet. Having a dragon that acts like a dog is, like, the best of both worlds. You get the obedience of a dog, and the strength of a dragon and can fly."

 

"Haha, you could see it like that."

 

"I still think it's odd he doesn't talk. Don't most dragons know how to communicate with more than growls?"

 

"He might be able to. He never tried on me atleast."

 

Katie just blinks for a bit, seeming overwhelmed by all the information.

"So...we can't fight him at all?" Katie asks, seeming disheartened.

 

"If any part of you relies on magic, no. Not unless you want to be made into an... example."

"So you talked to him and somehow understood him growling at you?"

 

"I think? Just the tone in his growls show if he's happy or sad or angry."

 

Katie just looks confused.

"An example?" Katie asks, curious.

 

The Matriarch points to what looks like a leviathan staring down a limp forest guardian, their body completely grey and what looks like ash falling from their cut-off foot.
"I merely depict... that painting was never meant for the eyes of your reality."

"I'm impressed you could tell the difference."

 

Katie takes a few steps back in shock, terrified.

 

"That... that is an example. I suggest you avoid that fate."

 

Katie nods silently, seeming unnerved.

 

"Just the intensity of the growl tells a lot."

 

"You won't meet that end just by being in his domain, but... please, don't confront him. Make sure your friends don't either."

"Does he also hum? I feel like that's something he'd do instead of growl all the time, if he's as nice as you say."

 

"I...We can't win." Katie says, hopeless.

 

"You can't... but you're friends with other high gods. Gaia has stopped him in the past, she should be able to shield you from his power."

 

"She can protect us? Really?" Katie asks, starting to regain hope.

 

"I may not know how the gods fare now, but with the stories I hear typically being true... Gaia supposedly threw herself between Idhaenna and O'rogal long ago in order to prevent them from destroying the connections with the spirit plane, and managed to avoid being sealed by their combined attacks."

 

"I-I should tell the others and go visit her." Katie says, nodding with understanding.
