Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

Eve cautiously steps through, deciding to wait and listen.

 

"- ATTL-0012 through BETP-1430 are projected to be refunded their donated assets in three days, and finally BETP-1431 through QWWC-0830 will be refunded the following week. Auxiliary fleets have been spread throughout to stabilize any overexerted contributions, though NFXK-0010 through 0050 are scheduled to be relocated in four hours as they sacrificed their homeworlds for the reconstruction effort."
"And we've already charted out somewhere else for them to go to?"
"Of course, there are well over a hundred vacant planets already suitable for them, though they may wish to terraform others to move closer to their trade partners."
"Good. How about the anomalies?"
"Like the one in your chambers?"
"What?" Idhaenna asks, surprised before sighing and turning to Eve.
"How urgent is it?" She asks, seeming slightly impatient.

 

"Oh, I'm sorry to disturb you. I just came to visit you to see your recent advancements in technology. Xlentia informed me." Eve explains.

 

"Research has been on hold for a while, though I'm sure there's plenty of side projects and reverse engineering operations going on across the stars. By chance could I have Stella help you so the next summary doesn't come late... again?"

 

Eve looks worried, though tries to keep calm.

"No thank you." Eve says politely.

 

"Okay, fine. You can sit through this, but if it's not urgent, you're not my priority. Clear?" She asks, becoming a little more impatient.

 

Eve nods.

"Sorry if I'm a problem." Eve says.

 

Idhaenna just turns back to EBB.

"Only in CATM and PRAV. Others are developing along primary WV and secondary KJ."
"And the interference isn't strong yet?"
"No, traces only showed up... four days ago."
"Great. Anything else of interest?"
"Star WWXT-0919 collapsed into a black hole, but the two inhabited planets had already been evacuated."
"Yeah, whatever. Anything else?"
"Not in the past twenty four hours, no."
"Great. Go make yourself useful."
EBB flies off.

"So... what about research?" Idhaenna asks, turning back to Eve.

 

"I would like to know how your research has been going. I heard you've made some large advancements in technology." Eve inquires.

 

"Oh, right. Not a lot as of late, but there is one project that might fit your definition. We're working on a less spatial manipulation-based ammo recovery system, as well as improving scrap recycling methods. Also black hole mining, but the prototypes are... well, let's just say I'm not funding them yet."

 

"Black Hole mining sounds incredibly inefficient. Aren't black holes known to destroy all they consume?" Eve asks.

 

"Ah, not quite. Black holes hypercompress everything they consume into a single, extremely unstable point. Taking a piece of that and spreading it out into a slightly more stable density could save a fair bit of overhead on pre-existing hypercompression methods."

 

"I was not informed of that. Would it be possible to use perhaps the opposite force of a black hole to reconstruct all that a black hole consumes?" Eve poses.

 

"Because everything is broken down into elementary particles and energy, not quite. Energy loss through conversion is inevitable, else the raw cost of external energy to recoup absolutely everything is inefficient. Think about this - to recover absolutely everything from a small black hole that only absorbed its respective solar system would take as much power put out by four solar generators in eight hours. It's so much easier to cut some losses and keep being able to have energy overflow in case of emergencies."

 

"Perhaps you could use the strength of a black hole to generate power? You'd need to find a way to harness it's energy without having the equipment be compressed, but I'm sure you could draw something out of it." Eve says, thinking.

 

"We already do, I just figured you don't have that tech yet."

 

"Our power generation is mostly magic based, as it is infinite and reliable; just harder to concentrate." Eve explains.

 

"Well, I'm sorry you either settled for the easy solution or your gods aren't fond of tech." She shrugs.

 

"Ofcourse, Rema! I should ask her."

 

"We've taken a safer route rather than attempting to shift planets to our whim." Eve says.
