"Humans." The guardian shrugs.

 

"Well, they do tend to make everything possible for everything they do." Fable says, glancing outside again.

"That was a really long time ago... but yes, sort of. Neither you nor your now deceased brother inherited lycanthropy normally, so... you've got some other werewolf in your head."

You wanted to fit in, I was trying to help...

Ted licks her hand, his tongue as warm as usual.

 

"Awww, you're cute."
She turns her hand to scratch his head.

 

"I guess. I'll just go with it for now until I find some better explanation."

He looks around a bit.
"So.. this mayor. Could you bring me to his spot?"

 

The rain still seems to be pouring down heavily. The heights of the mountains are probably the only thing preventing floods.

 

"...Pardon me for asking, but if there are guardians who can bend the tides, why don't you flood your enemies?"

"I doubt you'll find something better, but fair enough. Come, he usually pops back up in his bedroom, unsurprisingly."

Ted lowers it, going back to panting steam.

 

"They do." The earth guardian says.

 

"Do your enemies have cities in the sky, then?"

 

"He's great, isn't he?"
Voidfiller pipes in, drawing the attention of the lady and scooching over to her.
"'Is name's Ted."
"Ted, huh? What kinda dog is he?"
"Oh, I don't really know. He's a rescue, pro'lly some kinda mutt. I'n't that right?"
He reaches his hand down to get Ted over to him.

 

"We can't just flood anywhere we like. It would upset the balance of the land." The earth guardian explains.

 

"I won't ask why you know how to get into his bedroom, but sure."

I'll follow along.

 

Fable nods.
"Well, sorry to take so much of your time. Which way to the library?"

"The door's open, though I do have keys to... well, everywhere inside." She sighs.
After holding the door open for you, she heads up a spiral staircase that is completely untouched by the crowds below, dangling ropes obscuring vision once you get to the top.
"Just walk through these, I... really don't know why they're here."

Content, Ted turns to you and steps towards you, glancing back at the terrier every now and then.

 

The Terrier jumps up on the bench, curling up in the lady's lap.
"What's your name?"
The lady tries to continue conversation.
"David."
"Oh, I'm Laura."
Just then, Ted notices a group of kids running to the park from the outside, the leader of them being the kid that was on the bike from earlier.

 

"How do you have keys? Are you a guard or something?"

He climbs through the ropes.

 

“Yes, I’m the only one on outside duty right now.”

As you push through, you see something that actually seems like a dream - a whole other castle and courtyard within.
“This is the inside.”

 

"This is a little disorientating."

 

"It's on the northwest side of town. You can't miss it, it has a large clocktower." The earth guardian says, smiling.

 

"Alright, thanks. I hope I didn't overstay my welcome." Fable nods, turning to the door before turning around.
"Actually... kinda going to need you to open it, unless you need a reason to get a new door." She sighs.

"The dream realm is... definitely something that doesn't obey all the laws of reality." She admits. "Anyhow, assuming you don't get lost en route, it's a mostly straight shot to their bedroom." She says, holding one of the double doors open.

 

The door opens on it's own, a slight hand movement from the earth guardian.

"Good luck." The earth guardian says happily.

 

"Straight forward. Got it."
