Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"Yes." Katie says, getting out of the pond and changing her tail back to legs.


"Well, where are they?" Aquira asks, a slight demanding tone in her voice.

 

Fable transforms back, gauntlets coming off of Katie.
“Sorry if I went overboard. Thanks, though.”


Kiin looks guilty.
“...I dunno.” She admits.

 

"Look, fae, I like the fancy words, but unless you're going to give me specifics, I'll have to decline your offer."
The man starts slowly making his way over to the fae.
"Aren't you forgettin' 'bout someone, Vox?"
The giant glares towards the man.
"I just want what's best for you, alright?"
The giant rolls his eyes and groans.
"What? I'm trying my best to get you what you want."

 

"No problem." Katie says, one of the Earth Guardians from before running over.

"There you are. Come on, sign ups are almost over." The Earth Guardian says.


Aquira sighs.

"At least some of the crew got away safely..." Aquira says wistfully.

 

“What specifics do you want? If you’re gonna ask for specifics, you can’t be that vague.”

Fable nods, waving to Katie.
“Enjoy your reunion.” She says, walking towards the other guardian.


“If it makes you feel better, I spelled out ‘for mum’ using artillery craters on the city.” Kiin says, seeming disappointed with herself.
“Okay, well... the remains of the city. There wasn’t a city when I got there.”

 

"Well, cost, for starters. You said it was expensive."

 

“I mean, half a ton of metal is pricey. Forging it to weigh less than a feather is pricey. You, however, wouldn’t be charged for it. If you were... I’d say a hand that size would cost about... how much do you charge for by the hour?”

 

Katie waves back, before diving back into the pond.

The earth guardian leads Fable through the town, heading back to a familiar warehouse. Fable can already hear crowds inside.


Aquira gives Kiin a hug to try and cheer her up.

 

"'Pends on who you're renting."
"It's a really shitty system that prioritizes amount of times someone is bought, over how versatile or useful they actually are."
"I'm sorry,"
Vox whips around to face Voidfiller.
"just who is the business owner here?"
"You don't know anything about me, Vox."

 

Fable keeps following and keeps quiet.


Kiin hugs her back.
“I missed you so much.” She says quietly.

“Give me a number. Let’s just use him for the example.” The fae snaps, pointing at the giant.

 

"Six thousand an hour."

 

“To cover the cost of his hand at that rate, you’d need to have him working for three months straight. Fortunately, since I’m feeling some combination of nice and sick of hearing you complain, none of you three would be paying.”

 

Vox eyes the fae suspiciously.
"...This sounds like there's some catch to it."

 

“Stop bitching about it or there will be.” She snaps. “You’re already making me regret my offer.”

 

"Oh, trust me, trust me, I am all for it."
Vox tries so hard to be sincere it almost seems sarcastic.
"Will you be needing him for the making of this hand?"

 

"Unwell? How come?"

 

“Oh, right, yes. And now there’s a catch - you’re not going to charge me for it. Unless you want me to grow a fungal infestation in your lungs, then you can charge me.”

“I’m not sure. He’s been in and out, lately, and that’s unusual for someone who thought he wasn’t tied to a body in the physical world.”

 

Vox's mouth wriggles as he takes a bit to say the right thing.
"How... long are you going to have him for?"
His voice gets higher and higher pitched as he slowly says the sentence.

 

“I knew you had some sense in you... anyhow, the whole process takes about five minutes.”

 

"Oh, good."
Vox smiles, relieved.
"Everything's fine, then."
The giant clears his throat into his hand, seeking attention. Vox answers the call, looking towards him.
"Is something the matter?"
"This seems like a fine idea to me, too, Vox, thank you for asking."
The words are slick with aggressiveness.
