Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

“I like a good dog, but last time I checked, you’re charged by the hour.”
The giant reminds Voidfiller.
“Right. I gotta go, okay?”
Voidfiller says to Ted.

 

“So you guys control the weather and you haven’t thought of making their cities uninhabitable?”


She pauses.
“Ah, right. Wrong body. Herus?”

The power suddenly seems to be concentrating onto nothing, and despite Mortius’ efforts, she vanishes and leaves anyways.

Ted turns, looking at you intently.

 

"We've tried, but we're not like Shadows. We let them remain in their cities, it's how its always been. However, we're more vigilant about our protected areas. If we see a human, they're lucky if we don't seriously wound them. That's if they're not hostile." Katie says.

 

“So, you’re choking them off from resources they rely on and killing them when they go out to get more?” Fable asks, albeit whispering in Katie’s ear to avoid insulting as many people.

 

“Here.”
The bowl disappears and the portal raises, lava dropping out of it and onto the floor for Ted.
Voidfiller then gets up and rushes to the side, opening a portal and focusing on making it wide enough for the giant.
“Finally.”
The giant groans, slipping through.
“See ya.”
Voidfiller smiles to Ted before walking through.

 

Ted follows you through.

 

"We give them what they need. We used to work together, but they started wanting more, then demanding more. When we didn't give, they turned to violence and vile tactics to get what they want." Katie says, pointing to a tapestry depicting what she's saying.

"Bloody humans..." A fire guardian mutters as they pass.

 

“That’s silly. Well, at least mortals are, well, mortal.”

 

It leads to an almost castle-like stone structure, its large size radiating importance unto the city around it.
The entrance has double door, of which the giant is already pushing through.
“Oh, okay.”
Voidfiller seems surprised by Ted’s following, closing the portal behind him.

 

"...I'm mortal." Katie says.

 

Ted sticks near Voidfiller’s leg.

“Right. Sorry.” Fable sighs. “I didn’t mean... oh, whatever, I don’t have real feelings.” She mumbles, seeming frustrated.

 

“Good boy.”
He scratches Ted as he walks to the double doors, opening them up and jogging to catch up with the giant.
The doors open to a grand entrance, banners hanging along the walls and a large, circular front desk in the back of the room. Wooden doors lead off from this area to other places.
“Voidfilla!”
A hysterical, loud, high-pitched voice exclaims, the sound echoing off the walls. The yelling seems to have come from a tall, pointy-eared man hastily rushing over from the desk to Voidfiller with a clipboard in hand. Nobody else seems to be around other than the man, the giant, Voidfiller and Ted.

 

Ted whines, already put off.

 

“You’re upsetting Ted.”
Voidfiller puts his appendages on his hips.
“You’re upsetting me! You think you can just waltz in here and give back a client with a missing hand?!”
“He... does not have a missing hand.”
“Of course he has a missing hand! What do you call that piece of junk where his hand should be?”
The man points towards the mechanical hand that the giant now has.
“I’d call it a hand.”
“That is not his hand!”
“It is now.”
This only seems to make the man more furious, getting up in Voidfiller’s face.

 

Ted moves over to the giant, sniffing at the prosthetic.

 

Ted gets one sniff at the dry metal before the giant lifts it up out of Ted's reach.
"You better be paying me extra for the maintenance my best client must undergo now."
"No maintenance, bud."
"I doubt that."
Voidfiller rolls his eyes.
"Look, I had to keep him for a good while for the repair, anyways, I'm paying more than I should be."
"And you'll be paying even more, now, because of the monstrosity you've made."
"It is just a hand. A hand that I repaired near-flawlessly."
"Now he has to get used to it. That devalues my client, do you understand that?!"
"It's just his hand!"
"It's made of metal!"
"Okay, so it's a smidgen different. It weighs a bit more. Takes a little bit more effort to whip through the air - he's a fucking giant, he is inherently slow because of how big he is."

 

Ted sits against the giant's foot, fur warm as his tail wags slightly nervously.

 

The giant folds his arms as he listens to the conversation, ignoring Ted.
"I've made my point."
The man says in an almost smug manner.
"Just gimmie the damn..."
Voidfiller snatches the clipboard filled with papers from the man, taking time to read them over.

 

"Odd. I wonder why them made this place like this."

 

I don't mean this as anything philisophical, but what if they didn't make it? It's a dream world, it could've been all one person.

"...Wait." A fae says, peeking out from Ted's fur, which startles him and causes the fae to fly out of his reach.
"What about a draconian prosthetic?"
