Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

Eve just rolls her eyes.


Onyx holds on tightly, staying on Avis' back.

 

"Well, losing our minds aside, what're you here for?" She asks, closing one of the books she was going through.


Onyx is now trapped between Avis' soft feathers and the frigid ground.

 

"Them, mainly. After the war there were fears humans might try to come back stronger to finish the job." Eve says.


Onyx stays where she is, waiting for Avis to fly.

 

"Well... I've been working on something, something you might find interesting. A concoction that in conjunction with an air guardian's powers, can create a mist that stops all mage crystals within from being able to work. I've... yet to test it extensively, though. Pure mage crystals also overpower it and still function, but I'm sure I can fix that eventually." She tells Eve telepathically, blocking all other communications while doing so.


Avis is literally on top of her.

 

"Mind if I try it?" Eve responds.


Onyx tries to turn around and grab onto Avis.

 

Emerald hands Eve a small vial with a thick, black liquid within.
"I will warn you... direct contact with the concentrated liquid is beyond even Ihra's healing capabilities."


She's in the middle of a feathery bush - reaching out in any direction yields feathers.

 

"I don't have organic parts." Eve says, slotting the vial into her hand.

Eve pauses for a moment, before her other hand changes to a yellow crystal. The crystal shines brightly, illuminating the table Eve puts it on. Eve then points her index and middle finger toward the crystal, the mist coming out from their tips.


Onyx focuses, crystal on her collar glowing faintly before Onyx disappears.

 

The moment the mist touches the crystal, traces of it stick and it stops glowing entirely almost immediately after.


Avis just rolls back over, going back inside the cryo room.

 

Eve ejects the vial, now half-drained, and offers it back to Emerald as she checks the crystal.


A while later, a girl with bubblegum pink hair and a mask covering her face enters the cryo room, looking around.

 

The mist seems to have reacted with the crystal, and it feels a bit like petrified wood. It also seems to be quickly losing its magic as it continues to change texture.
"Hopefully that wasn't terribly important... I haven't bothered working on permittance of reusability yet."


Avis squawks at her once as she enters, again staying up on the upper floors.

 

"It was a throwaway crystal." Eve says, testing the durability of the crystal as she steadily increases pressure on it between her fingers.


The girl climbs up the ladder. However, she seems to be able to scale it rather quickly and nimbly.

 

It seems to become increasingly more brittle as time goes on, exploding into shards and dust once the pressure gets to be too much.


Avis keeps an eye on her, but doesn't bother getting close.

 

The shards bounce off of Eve with a clink, though Eve doesn't seem surprised.


The girl keeps climbing, looking around for anyone else.

 

"I'll keep working on it." Emerald says, desummoning the vial. "It's a shame there's a war going on, I'd love to study your reality's magic more."


Nobody else out of cryostasis is in the room.

 

"My reality is peaceful for the most part. The only chances of war would be through total inaction." Eve says.


The girl stops on one of the levels, looking at the people in cryostasis.

 

Emerald shakes her head.
"What happened yesterday was not a war, it was a single battle. Stop lying to yourself - we're both at war. We've both been at war just as long."


Most are draconians with varying wounds, some are healed, and a few seem perfectly healthy but are marked with timers that have millennia left to count down.

 

"I've seen worse." Eve says emotionlessly.


The girl taps on one of the healthy draconians curiously.

 

"Don't lose yourself, Eve." Emerald says, nodding.


They blink, unable to do anything more.

 

Eve doesn't react.


The girl seems a little startled, stepping back.

 

Emerald leaves Eve there, heading back into the archives and closing the door behind her.


They glance towards their timer, which is blinking zero.
