Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"Oh, you're new here!" The woman says happily, smiling.

Mortius glances over to Idhaenna, his ominous, empty eyes seeming to stare right through her like a blade. Something drives Idhaenna to look away from his sockets, a deeply rooted fear of some kind.

"Then who is she?" The woman asks, looking at Mortius as he shifts his hollow gaze back to the chess board.

 

"Okay, then, we should be moving, right?"
The giant starts re-looking for another route out of the area they're in.

 

She just looks back to the chessboard.
"Idhaenna, Mortius is one of my counterparts in this reality. At home, I hold dominion over the skies, stars, and spirits. Mortius seems to be the closest thing to the spirit part of things, considering I'm also gatekeeper to Oblivion. And again, I apologize for my haste and rashness - I can't let those gates go unchecked for too long."
Pause.
"Plus, to spice things up... Mortius, watch for the mate in thirteen, and look for a mate in eight."

There's three other tunnels leading out of the chamber.
"We'll move with Erre. The smoke's good cover."

 

"Lead the way, Erre."
The giant suggests, scritching Ted for making the smoke.

 

"You...don't have other people watching the gates?" The woman asks, moving one of her chess pieces.

 

“That’d be like telling a blade of grass to guard the gate to hell while the hounds go out for a bit.” Idhaenna says. “The only other person who could guard it is Xlentia, though that’d involve a lot of erasing and a lot of holes in history.”

Ted’s tail wags a bit faster as the four of you head on, the smoke making it even harder to see from inside the bubble.

 

The giant opens a portal and messes around a bit before pulling out a long strip of jerky and feeding it to Ted.

 

"It will probably take effect. Magic is stronger then most of the human minds."

 

"You really don't have anyone else capable?" The woman asks, surprised.

 

"Unless you know any mortals capable of babysitting the restless end of the multiverse, no."

"I know, but... I don't know if it'd change anything."

He takes it a bit aggressively, ripping the rest of the stick out of your hand as it tries to not drop it.
"If you want to go home with your newfound friend, go ahead. We're only trying to create a vulnerability in enemy front lines." The dryad says passive-aggressively as the group walks on, the halls void of other sounds.

 

"Wow. Even Mortius doesn't tend to the gates here most of the time." The woman says.

 

"I hope you don't. I really hope you don't."

 

“The Hive Master’s stirring something up in there. I’m not going to hand him out any advantages if I can avoid it.”

She hops on your shoulder and licks your cheek.
“Why mess with perfection, anyways?”

 

"Who?" The woman asks.

"Oh." The woman says after a pause, eyes flickering to Mortius for a moment.

 

“If you don’t mind me asking, who are you?” Idhaenna asks, gaze shifting to the woman after glancing at her bracelet.

 

"Naomi." Naomi says, smiling.

 

“Nice to meet you. Mind telling me your title? I would guess, but it might be taken as derogatory.”

 

"Oh, stop it. You're making me blush."

 

"Succubus." Naomi shrugs.

 

"Oh, trust me, I am not done here."
The giant says telepathically, letting Ted have the rest of the jerky before readying his weapon that he pulled off of the guard.
"I'm only trying to make sure that Ted doesn't blow our cover. And who knows what he's seen? He might be useful."
