Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

From the inside, Alice sees if she can drop the elevator into a freefall from below.


After a handful of misses, EBB leads its shots appropriately with two arms, and switches to explosive rails on two others for the tanks.

 

The elevator appears to be extremely secure, most likely built around not dropping it's passengers to their death.


EBB catches one of the jets, causing it to fall and crash. Before it hits the crowds, however, I grab it with both hands as I rapidly increase size, throwing it towards the human offensive. As I return to normal size, I hug a familiar looking forest guardian; a third arm protruding from my back holding up Shadow Katana to defend with.

 

She looks for some kind of maintenance area.


EBB lets off an EMP pulse into the sky, flying down towards you and Artemis.
"If you two would be kind enough to leave and return to somewhere safe for biological beings, I would appreciate it. I have other tasks on my list." It calls over the sounds of war.

 

There's no visible maintenance shafts, though as Alice is looking, the doors begin to open.


Jets fall and crash, though this time air and earth guardians are able to prevent their damage.

"I can't leave my kind behind. They need all of us." Artemis says.

I pause for a moment, before turning to EBB.

"We're going to stay. Fight. Win." I say confidently. Artemis smiles, taking my hand.

 

He starts moving forward again, dipping his hand in a portal before pulling it out again, the hand now dripping in a vibrant green honey-like substance which sticks to the hand.

 

"No, no I'm not."

He walks towards the counter.
"Say, I want to give something to sweet to a friend of mine now that he has recovered from an injury. Do you have anything that would be fitting?"

 

She tries to hide in whoever's opening them.


"Well, my objectives are complete. Don't catch too many bullets, Idhaenna seems rather impatient in seeking you both." EBB says, leaving through a small portal.

The other two stick a bit closer to him, though they still stay about a throwing distance away.

As you approach again, a man in obsidian-decorated armor slams down his visor and takes a step back.
"Found 'em. Catalyze the reset, will you?"

"Cake, cookies, doughnuts... I guess some muffins could count."

 

Alice manages to without much struggle, though they appear to be going up; reversing Alice's progress.


Artemis and I nod, and I split into two. One empowers Artemis, while the other skips through the army and runs toward the humans.

 

"Do you have something.. bigger?"

 

“What?”
The giant says, confused, awkwardly holding out his hand so as to not touch anything.

 

"I mean... we have a few pretty big cakes. Did you have something else in mind, like a giant cookie or pie or something?"

She tries to leave before the doors close again, trying to slip into the darkness again.

The man just stands there before tossing a rock into the goop.

 

There's not much darkness in the base, though Alice ends up in someone's shadow, moving through the base away from the elevator.

 

He looks past the man, seeing if the tunnel goes farther, moving his body a bit.

 

"Yeah. Or maybe some kind of bread filled with something. What can you do?"

 

She opts to hide in them.

"A pie makes more sense than that. So, a pie or a cake?"

It does.
The man readies his spear, holding a defensive position.

 

The giant backs up, curiously peering at the man and what he’s doing.

 

"A piece, please."

"What flavors do dragons like?" He thinks.

 

The person doesn't seem to notice, and they head further into the base. Ceiling shine against chrome walls, and potted plants and trees appear to be quite common. They greet a few other people as they pass by. Some of the people wear suits, while others carry weapons and wear what look to be surgeon's outfits. The metal floor clanks beneath the person's feet, and they come to a large, heavily fortified door with a pair of guards. They put their finger into what looks like a small keyhole, their finger being pricked. After a short while, the doors open, and the person walks through. Guards appear to be more common in this part of the base and everywhere looks more fortified. Doors appear in a pattern either side of the person, and a surgeon walks out of one of them, the door slowly and heavily opening. They're much bloodier than the other surgeons, and carry a large sack with blood dripping from it.

The person reaches into their pocket, pulling out a torn off piece of paper. The words printed on it read "Subject 24b. Status: Waiting for Execution." Alice notices the doors have numbers printed next to them, and the person is headed to the door numbered 24.

 

He seems to just be waiting.

The dryad links with Voidfiller.
"Hey, the reset means this whole place is going to be molten again. We need to push up out of this system before that, and he's stalling for time. Stop standing there, I'm not keen on dying with my thumbs up my ass."

"A... what?"

You're the smart one. How am I supposed to remember, I just know we both eat flesh."

Alice waits intently, curious.

 

The person takes a card out of their pocket, swiping it through a reader on the door. The door opens slowly, clanking a little. The person steps through into a small room, again swiping his card through a reader on the right wall. The wall flips, revealing blunt, sharp and projectile weapons. The person takes a pair of iron gloves from the wall, before flipping it over. The wall clicks shut, and the person swipes his card once more next to the door into a much larger room. As the thick door opens, the person puts on the gloves.

The person steps into the dimly lit room, a water guardian with ash-grey hair chained against the wall; each limb attached. They look thin and weak, and their skin looks incredibly dry.

"P...Please...I-I've told," The water guardian weakly says, before going into a coughing fit, "told you...a-all I know. L-Let me...g-go free."

"That's what I'm here for, to set you free." The person says with a false smile.

"R-...R-Really?" The water guardian asks, their voice raspy and weak. They raise their head, a glimmer of hope in their eyes.

"Yes. Free from life. Perhaps you'll find your false god Gaia?" The person says, before firmly grabbing the water guardian by the throat, choking them. The water guardian seems shocked, barely able to gasp for any air before the person's grip tightens. The glimmer of hope in their eyes disappears, replaced with a look of acceptance. They barely struggle, eyes going blank as they die. The person then grabs the water guardian by the head, snapping their neck quickly to assure they're dead.
