Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"Heh."
He grins a wild grin, before walking off into his home, eventually closing the portal if no other objections arise from the fae.

 

They leave him alone, vanishing before the portal closes.

 

Voidfiller minds his own business, keeping to his home mostly. If anyone's keeping their attention on the tracker, though, they notice him transport to a completely different place for a short amount of time before returning.

 

After half an hour, the acorn forcefully teleports him into a cavern lit by molten rock dripping from the ceiling.

 

An unshifting giant teleports seemingly in his steed, and the giant looks around curiously at the cavern.

 

The faux-guardians seem to gear up in magical equipment, weapons mimicking the look of the ones used by guardians and mage crystals to allow them to falsely perform their powers.


"I doubt it. They're divided, they wouldn't funnel soldiers from wherever they're keeping Katie's parents into the front lines. Granted, they can't call for more help, but that doesn't make them any less of a threat." I say.


"It is not." Eve confirms.

 

Each clone continues hiding, further lowering their profile.

"Hey... they're not screwing around. These guys must've found their brains, only soulscans differentiate them from guardians."


"Well... I suppose if you're here to kill me, there's not much I can do. If you do, I want to offer one thing before I'm left to oblivion."

There's a mix of dryad, fae, a few golems, and draconians.
The fae from earlier looks at the giant.
"Okay, simply put, we're looking for a crystalline formation with a phoenix egg in the center. If we crack it open, we'll be attempting to open a portal to escape the inevitable lava flood. Worst case scenario, you get to play Atavul's filthy game to go home."

 

"Like, right now? I barely got ta bring anythin'."
The giant's hand fishes through a portal that looks like Voidfiller's, the hand barely fitting through.

 

“Hurry up and keep it down. Bile won’t work on molten rock.” They retort.

 

The soldiers, once ready, begin receiving orders of when, where and how to attack.


"Humans are dangerous. They might not all be quality, but they're definitely quantity. It's how I can feed half the palace on human flesh and there's still billions of them." I say.


"What's that?" Eve asks.

 

"'At's why I'm fishing for the cannon. But, you said keep it down, so..."
The hand takes itself out of the portal, which closes, and the giants starts examining the cavern better.

 

Alice copies down the orders with her main body, word for word.

“Have you considered farming animals? It makes Virei’tus smiting you a whole lot less likely.”


“Cut off my head, and you’ll have an hour to undo the petrification of creatures who have looked at me. Any longer, and you’ll need more than Gaia to save them.”

“I mean, can’t you suppress the sound? Just use the sonic motion to further accelerate the projectile.”

 

The giant thinks for a few moments, the shrugs.
"Cannon it is, then."
He opens the portal again and fishes a bit more before pulling out a gray cannon.
It doesn't seem to be anything too high-tech or highly magical, but it can easily fit in one of the giant's hands, and it sure as hell looks like a cannon. The giant pulls out a large net of ammunition with it, hooking the net on his belt.

 

They seem to be ordering the faux-guardians to hang back and jump into the fray to blend in with the guardians, before finding who's leading them and slowly moving back. A lot of the soldiers seem to be ordered to prepare in high points in the city, to resist the oncoming tsunami. The main order is to kill any guardians on sight, however.


"We have connections. Not everyone wants to eat human flesh for every meal." I say.


"How would I reverse the effect? And where would I find all the creatures?" Eve asks.

 

Half the group seems to already have split up into smaller squads and gone on.
“Alright, don’t miss. Not all of us like a molten bath.”

She listens for any more detailed orders, sticking with the higher-ups in hopes of finding other information about the prisoners.

“Controversy aside, who do I send their orders to?”


She hesitates.
“...I feel like throwing away my only bargaining chips regarding my life is a poor idea. I can tell this place is as ruthless as the Void.”

 

"I won't."
The giant trudges forth, holding the cannon under his arm.

 

There’s three other tunnels to go down, and the rest of the group seems adverse to following him.

 

He doesn't seem to care, looking as far down the tunnels as she can.

 

She manages to hear a whispered conversation about a location, 'the two pirates' being mentioned and how the guardians cannot be allowed to reach there.


"If you can find the leader on the guardian's side, they could probably use the intel." I say.


"If you're a common citizen, you have a very low likelihood of surviving a year outside the protection of a city," Eve says, "Your chances of survival alone out here are extremely low, considering the amount of dangerous beasts roaming about."

 

She writes down the conversation back at home, scanning for tracers while hoping for more details.

“I need names, locations, contacts, something. Ihra’s the closest thing I have, and I don’t want to endanger her here for something she has no business focusing on.”


“...My name is Fenira, and I was banished to the Void for petrifying my reality’s Gaia before the twelve preservers were born. I’ve never been given a chance to atone for my actions before, and if you deem me undeserving, I understand.” She says, still avoiding eye contact.

The tunnels all look the same, and the area is suspiciously quiet, hold the low rumbling of churning magma on the other side of the cave walls.
