Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"Sweet. They'll be fine, right?"

 

Nobody seems to have any more information than Alice does, all simple people living simple lives.

Suddenly, the news broadcasts flicker out, before changing to a video of a water guardian. They seem to be speaking in a language Alice doesn't immediately recognise, though their expression looks angry. At the end of their broadcast however, they say something Alice can understand.

"Your time has come, humans." The water guardian says, drawing a line across their neck before the broadcast suddenly ends.

The news broadcast then returns, explaining how they and other stations appeared to have been hacked, before reporting a large tsunami heading towards the capital city Alice is in.


"And why should I help you?" I ask, narrowing my eyes.

 

"Right."
He turns the acorn in his hands, looking it over.

 

“Yeah, just give it a few minutes.”

It’s a hollowed out acorn with a small gem inside, the magic within clearly tracking.

Alice tries to find reporters or media companies to spy on, a bit curious.


“I can’t speak for you.” She sighs, seeming defeated.

 

Alice finds a reporter in a van heading towards a nearby beach, though it looks more like a desert from the lack of the ocean.

"This is gonna be a big story. We're the only ones brave enough to report it." The reporter says to his crew, looking ahead courageously.


"Perhaps in your next life you can work on your survival instincts." I say, bringing Shadow Katana back to slice.

I turn, interrupted by the sound of an approaching roar. Eve rides toward me on a motorbike, screeching to a halt next to me once she gets close.

"You're needed back at the palace and on Earth. Katie's parents were captured, and guardians seem to have begun a war to get them back. Hundreds of your guardians have taken up arms and left to join their battle, led by the water guardians. Artemis will most likely join in, and if she does, she's highly likely to be killed in the imminent bloodbath. You need to do something." Eve explains.

I pause for a moment.

"Alright. I'll ride back to the palace, take care of this...thing how you see fit." I say, hopping on Eve's motorcycle and riding off.

Eve looks at the hydra, scanning it.

 

"We're leaving then. See ya."

 

Voidfiller looks it over one more time, then pockets it.
"Anything else?"

 

Alice seems content with her choice, leaving two clones to hide in the crew as she sends the other two to seek out military areas.

Her main body links with you.
"Oh, great, you're finally out of the woods. Do you want what I've gathered, or are you just going to run in face first into everything?" She says, seeming fairly irritated.


She seems ancient, even older than Emerald, Ragnyon, or anything else Eve's seen. She's also fairly weak, clearly used to being alone.

"Bring something heavy, we're looking to take out a nullmagic field that blocks shapeshifting."

She waves, turning away from you.

 

One of her clones comes across a military base, many of the soldiers gearing up in camouflaged armour and powerful looking weapons. High ranking soldiers and captains bark orders at them as they prepare.


"Information would be useful." I respond calmly.


"What are you?" Eve asks, suspicious.

 

She keeps one clone hidden in the shadows as she scans for nullmagic.

Alice shows you a vision of the map, along with a circle around the capital.
“They were taken in or through here, and there’s a whole military installment preparing for war. I’m checking for nullmagic, then I might be tempted to get my first kill.”


“A stonegazer... like in the stories of gorgons.”

 

"...Like, a cannon, heavy? I'm guessing not."

 

“A cannon’s probably a good start.” They shrug.

 

Alice can detect traces of nullmagic in the ammunition of the soldiers. They're most likely designed to embed itself in a target and drain their magic, leaving them powerless.


"Found any guardians preparing for war on their side?" I ask.


"Why are you out here?" Eve inquires.

 

Alice checks the soldiers and their higher ups, seeing if any are guardians.

“Good question, give me a minute and you’ll have an answer.”


“A woman who called herself Gaia came through a rift, through here... she was the first person to do anything more than pretend I wasn’t there, or see me as a monster.”

 

"A'ight. Oh, you're able to send a message to the troops, right?"

 

None of them are guardians, though she finds a few that look enough like guardians to fool those without the ability to check. They appear to have their own magical signatures, most likely to avoid friendly fire.


I wait for a response.


"Was she very powerful? You may have met Gaia, the Goddess of Life." Eve says.

 

She continues her search.

“Still looking. There are a few humans cosplaying as guardians or some shit, though.”


“Yes, she also seemed to be acquainted with Xlentia.”

“If I think it’s worth bothering them all over, yes.”

 

"Okay, cool, let them know that if they see someone vomit on the battlefield, don't go near whatever they throw up."

 

There appears to be a whole segment of soldiers pretending to be guardians, most likely as a stealth attack to remove their enemy from the inside.


"That's...awfully tactical of them." I say, surprised.


"Then that is most likely the goddess." Eve says.

 

She continues to hide in one.

“My guess is that it’s going to be a distraction tactic from the inside. However, this gives me an idea... hope, maybe. If these smartasses are going to be putting this much effort in stemming the guardian attack, a certain two pirates are going to be slightly less defended.”


“This isn’t her domain, I assume... she seems too unlike what I’ve seen.”

“Bile, primitive. I like it.” They smirk.
