Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

It's a sentry's journal.

"Year 17, Day 4
Some giant dragon showed up. We thought it was out for us, so we sent a few people with gifts to try and appease it. She mistook the gifts for weapons. We lost five border cities yesterday.

Year 17, Day 5
Our army didn't last a-"
The sentence just ends.

"Thank you... Truly."

 

"Was it just chains, may I ask?" I ask, lowering the volume of my voice slightly, "I don't mean to sound intrusive, but Abigail...when she was younger, suffered the same fate in a way. She was chained to a volcano with a bowl of water, half filled, attached to her head. Water is incredibly harmful to Flame Guardians; so it was torture for her..."

"Abigail's not a dragon normally, I should clarify," I add, "It's a transformation she took on to hopefully comfort Ihra."

 

"Xlentia's already been to the Darklands? Interesting..."
Arnold places the book back to where it was and takes out the journal next to it.

 

"Chains with a null-field. Magic wouldn't affect them, and I was stretched before I was stabbed."

She looks at Abigail.
"Not sure if it'll work. Rineth didn't mind her laying in him."

"Our savior returned! The Queen blessed us with her presence and her aid. With a breath, their forces were devastated and we were able to wipe out their entire force.

A statue of her is to be built in town square. Maybe she'll come see it in person."

The handwriting quality suggests this was written by a child.

 

"Whoa...that's terrible..." I say, completely shocked, "And this was just for foretelling of the hivemaster's death? Jeez...at least we're somewhat civil in the Realm of Shadows..."

After a moment, I look towards Abigail, "Do you mean...laying in his mouth? I don't think Abigail would be able to do that; even if she could fit Ihra in." I say, shaking slightly.

 

"No, she'd just lazily rest against Rineth, ride him if she was tired. I don't know if Abigail would like that."
She seems to know this via her orb.

 

"I think Abigail is planning to fly us the rest of the way to Brisingr. I'm sure she wouldn't mind having Ihra rest on her either, but I don't know; Abigail can be unpredictable at times." I say, looking at Abigail.

Abigail remains in her defensive position around Ihra, resting her head on the ground.

 

"I wonder if this is the same place..."
Arnold puts the second book down and picks up a third journal.

 

"She's a bit small for everyone, but I trust your judgement."

She glances around.
"Is there by chance a stream or lake nearby?"

This one's burnt partially.

"Their black magic summoned a beast most foul. I do not kn-"
It's cut off again.

 

"Well, there's Katie's pool, but once again we're burdened by the fact that it's nighttime. Katie could form you a lake in the morning." I say, looking over to Katie's pool.

 

"The different opinions of Xlentia... interesting how the child loved her most..."
Arnold moves to yet another journal.

 

The water in her pool forms a sphere around her.
"I'm an Aquos."

Yet another opinion.
"The words in this journal may be seen at last! A dragon, though strange, acted as a bridge for our merchants to cross. Because of her cooperation, our town will survive another year! I never got her name, but maybe she'll give this journal to another curious reader.

Who am I kidding, I'm only a peddler... Well, one can hope!

"Hmm, well I'm sure you and Katie will get along swimmingly," I say, smiling at my own joke, "I believe I encountered your kind whilst traversing the void; chasing Ihra. I uh...might've torn some of them apart...sorry."

The pool quickly refills to replace the water that was taken.

 

Ragnyon looks shaken.
"Mercy...?"

 

"Oh, I won't attack you," I say happily, "I believe they were under the control of the hive master or something. They were attacking us so I fought back."

I offer a blue crystal, about the size of my hand, as a sign of friendship. I glows lightly, the blue hues swirling about like liquid on the crystal.

 

"Your word is enough. I don't know how to fight."

 

"It doesn't mean you can't learn. If you wanted, Katie could teach you how to weaponise water." I say, smiling.

I look towards the position of the moon in the sky.

 

"It's okay. I usually have a guardian with me- oh... It's fine. I'll be fine."
She looks nervous at the offer.

 

"Well, if you're unafraid of Golems, I'm sure Stephanie could get one to watch over you," I say happily, "You don't have to fight, your powers of precognition are enough to make you valuable in your own right."

 

"The closest thing I have is my tail, but a golem should suffice, unless Ihra has something against them."
