Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"Well, if it means anything, I'm sorry for giving you a hard time. I've only ever heard bad things about you." Lenka says to break the silence.


"...It's such a nice place, here." Petunia says. "So many nice people."


"I think I have a month or two left here. Apparently I took a decades-long nap. It is nice having not absolutely everyone scared of me, though."

The wyvern's already curled up and has his head covered by a wing.
"You all crashing?" Mark asks, picking up just a little more speed.
"Yep."
"Uh huh."
"Take your time..."
"Hopefully."
"As usual."

 

"Apology accepted." Shadow Stephanie says.


"Why not stay?" Praecantatia asks, sliding her glass goggles over her eyes.


"Oh, you were that huge overgrown living thing, weren't you?" Gari confirms.

 

"Wartime seems to have worn us down past our breaking point... or us, at least." He sighs. "So... uh, do you want to try the boss, or go through an assassination contract?"


"Then daddy will try to bring me back. You don't want people on the green and blue planet to be his too, do you?"


"Yeah." She nods.

 

"Contract sounds fun." Shadow Stephanie says.


"No. I want the humans left out of this." Praecantatia says.


"People made art of you, and there some theories about what you were." Gari says happily.

A forest faerie nervously flies up to Gari, keeping an eye on Xlentia.

"U-Uhm, Gari...D-Do you think you could grow some truffles for me?" The faerie asks nervously.

"Oh, sure thing Zila." Gari says happily, jumping off his large mushroom and sticking his hands into the mud.

 

"Twas a pretty rough road all the way to the bay you know. We're tired."

 

“So, you don’t show up to your own house if it gets filthy?”

 

"Alright, let's take a look... what degree of difficulty you want to start out with?"


"Then I can't stay. Not for too long. I figured it was worth a shot... you know, when everything fails, nothing might work." Petunia shrugs.
Pause.
"...Is your daughter going to make it? I tried to pull strings. I didn't get to see if I pulled the right ones."


"Really? That's... sort of odd. I mean, my armor's painted... it'd be like painting a painting."

"Well, you know the drill. I'll wake you up when we get there. Don't dream too hard, okay?"

"I clean up after myself. If my wife doesn't, then no. I don't."

 

"Well, some people are too busy, or wouldn't like to put in the work. It's a thing of preference, really."

 

"Nah, I'll just close my eyes. Maybe I won't sleep at all." He laughs.

 

"Medium." Shadow Stephanie says.


"I can't tell. She should be recovering a lot quicker, but she's just...not." Praecantatia says, sighing.


"Well, you were overgrown. Nobody could see you." Gari says, pulling a truffle the size of Zila out of the mud. Zila flies down and takes the truffle, before flying off with it.

 

“There’s got to be a baseline for respect, or they may as well wear a name tag that calls themselves a leech.”

“That’d be really boring. Doing nothing gets to you fast.”

“Okay, there’s a merc camp with a bit of a reputation. Your goal is to get to their leaders and knock them down a few pegs. Unlimited attempts, and you start right over there.” Lenka says, pointing to a coliseum that appears off to the side. “Three kingpins, no maps. I leave you to complete the task however you want.”


“I’m sorry, I couldn’t find a better time. Couldn’t figure what string to pull. I hope she gets well soon.”


“Fair enough.”
Pause.
“...Is everyone that nervous around dragons?”

 

"Well, I don't do much to begin with."

 

Shadow Stephanie heads over to the starting area, checking over her arsenal of weapons.


"I hope so too." Praecantatia sighs.


"Not really. Faeries tend to be more cautious around them since dragons are something big and they're something small. Considering the fact you're as big as Gaia, it probably makes them even more scared of being crushed or eaten." Gari shrugs.

 

“Plan your wedding, maybe?”

Just the two daggers.
“I’ve beat it four different ways as a ranger, but you lack a demon mirror. In other words, don’t make too much of a spectacle out of this, or you’re going to wind up failing.”


“...Not to be rude, but do you forgive me?”


“Oh... yeah, I guess that makes sense.” Xlentia sighs.

 

Shadow Stephanie looks for her target, and areas to hide.


"For what?" Praecantatia asks, confused.


Gari puts his hand back in the mud, taking out another truffle and biting into it.

 

"We're still looking for a location. Do you know any good cliffs around here?"

 

"It's more of a name tag that calls themselves rich. That's the real apotheosis for some humans."

 

They’re not in sight, and there seems to be a drainage system along with three entries; one for the audience, one for combatants, and an unmarked entry.


“I couldn’t find the right string to pull in time. Rose was the best one I could find.”


“Well, uh... where’s one of those beaches?”

“The rich are leeches.”

“The only one I know of on the island is the cliff overlooking the mountains.”

 

I shrug.
"Gods are rich. But I get your point."

 

"Have I been there before? I don't remember. Do you think you could some me in one of thoe days?"
