“So they’re catalysts, essentially?”

He nods, showing you one foot which has three thornholes in it.

“You’re correct. Do you happen to have a normal sword on you?” Lenka asks, tapping something that makes “Summoned” appear next to the hologram.

 

Stephanie twirls her sword, what seems to be a projection of a blade looking a lot more real. Stephanie holds up her weapon to show it.

 

“No, they let somebody else be a catalyst. That’s why there’s two. If one person’s, say, keeping up a spell effect, the other can help them concentrate on it and fight, or the other person can concentrate on it for them.”

 

“We’ll hope you aren’t going to kill sis.” Lenka sighs.

“Okay... I think I get it. Have you tested it much?”

 

Praecantatia narrows her eyes at Stephanie, giving her a stern look.

 

A lamia slithers into the room, rushing over to Lenka.
“Hey, cap, what’d you ne-“
“Normal body, please. We have guests.”
She nods, body shifting seamlessly from a red-scaled lamia to a blue-furred... probably should ask what they are.
“You didn’t tell me we have guests.”
“Security override call 2. Stand still.”
“Wait, what is she... oh. They don’t know, do they?”
“No.”

 

"Ouch, let's get those out of there."
He carefully starts removing the thorns.

 

They’re barbed, which makes Sgavrinn groan when you pull on them.

 

Stephanie seems to disappear momentarily, appearing briefly behind the blue furred creature before appearing back where she was, albeit facing the other direction.

The blue furred creature feels an incredibly sharp pain in their shoulders, and their arms fall off; severed.

 

They don’t feel anything, and there’s no blood.
“We done?” She asks, unfazed.
“Yep, that’s good.”
Her arms dissolve and reattach themselves.
“Grey just means they’re robotic.”
“Gen Six is scary. Totally worth it, though.”
“I’m not making the move until I go through Gen Five.”

 

"Easy there, bud. I know it hurts."
He continues pulling out the thorns.

 

"Interesting." Praecantatia says, observing.

 

“So anytime you see grey, it’s either robotics or cybernetics.”

It takes a lot to pull one out, and he howls when you do.

 

Praecantatia looks for a member that isn't grey.

 

There’s Lenka, and one whose hologram is more of a blob than anything.
“...Oh, uh... Mirrim is a bit busy right now.”

 

"What are they?" Praecantatia asks.

 

“Teregecysian. Think of them like hyperregenerative amorphous sloths. He’s over in the engine maintainence room right now.”

 

"Like a shapeshifter?" Praecantatia asks.

 

“Yeah, kind of. They’re sort of... amusing to mess with. They never forget, but they sort of give up on taking things fast really quick. They also die a lot. I think Mirrim’s burned up at least a couple hundred times.”

 

"Are they somewhat immortal?" Praecantatia inquires.
