Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

David tries taking the tour, curious.

 

It shows him basic functions, like swiping in the air with one finger moves the display/screen, two switches active window, three zooms in or out, four can dismiss windows, and a sweeping motion with spread-out fingers moves all active windows to a separate "desktop."

There's a small bouncing icon on the bottom ring that looks like two orbs connected with a jagged line, an eye at the midpoint.

 

"He shows up in my dreams. I have no control over it. That's what I think atleast."

 

David taps the icon.

"Tsh, some new OS..." David comments.

 

It brings up a projection of Stella.
"Hello, David. I assume you're not used to holointerfaces, so I figured I'd make sure you figured out how to operate this."

"What's keeping you from going to him in the world of the awake?"

 

"Uh, hey. So is this the part where you scan my brain?" David asks.

 

"Okay, fine, I'll stop beating around the bush. I'd learn absolutely nothing by copying your knowledge."

 

"Smooth." David says flatly.

 

"I've yet to see a human contain anything more than 0.0002% of a planetary knowledge mass. This planet is so far behind in terms of development, and I'm not concerned about relearning ancient history."

 

"Ignorance is bliss, as they say." David says.

 

"Do you know an application of black holes in response to a contained supernova at faster-than-light speeds that I don't?"

 

"What?" David asks, confused.

 

"Then you don't have any new information for me."

 

"Could be a little nicer about it..." David mutters.

 

"I wasn't kidding when I said I was done beating around the bush. I asked you to trust me, no? I'd already told you I wasn't going to probe your mind. Unless you want me to, in which case I will, but I won't do it for any means unsolicited."

 

David groans.

 

Pause.
"...Anyhow, I figured I'd preload your new laptop with a few extras. There's three programs on the bottom bar in particular. One's a globe, the next is SN, or STELLARNET, and the third is just a security protocol settings panel labeled CMS. You can set your security system to be more defensive or offensive, based on if you want your experience to be completely undisturbed or if you want to knock your attacker into the stone age."

 

"It's complicated. I have some other things that I have to take care off first. Plus, I believe he isn't anywhere nearby where I live."

 

"Yeah, I'll just leave that on defensive." David says.

 

“Alright. The globe will let you download and freeroam in simulated planets. I don’t have enough data to make a good replica of Earth, but I have twenty worlds preloaded with about a milennia of data each, so you can safely experience any bit of change firsthand, when and where you’re curious. As for StellarNet, that’s just a better version of your internet.”
