"Yes, but not quite. It's not hard to replicate beings' behaviors in AI. Plus, I could just pursue Awakening like everyone else."

 

"Awakening?" Eve asks.

 

"Reuniting with our biological self after full-auto conversion."

 

"So, you create a robotic clone of yourself? Wouldn't that be torturous for your robotic counterpart?" Eve asks.

 

"Nah, it's fine."

 

“Some blood, but that’s the extent of what I can classify. Meaning that there’s other stuff as well.”

 

She looks down, then back up at you.
"That's nothing."

 

"Are you sure?" Eve asks, looking concerned.

 

"Yeah. It'd be perfect if Awakening wasn't so bloody rare."

 

"That sounds...grim." Eve says, sounding a little depressed.

 

"Oh, come on. The days of the Autozakretian uprising are long passed. We know what we're doing this time around."

 

"Well, I can't imagine meeting myself fully transformed into a robot," Eve says, "Or worse, meeting myself not."

 

"You couldn't, only in spirit. The last biological parts of me would be removed if I go full auto."

 

“Just making sure. I don’t want you to throw up again.”
I remove my hand.

 

She nods.
"Thanks."

 

"Really? Th-That sounds even worse!" Eve says.

 

"Nah, thousands volunteer to do it. It costs less than becoming a partial Auto, too."

 

"Well...I guess if it's part of your culture, I...can't criticize it." Eve says.

 

"It's sort of a religion thing. We practically worship the First Ascended. Awakening is meeting your soul, Ascending is reuniting with it."

 

"Who's the first ascended?" Eve asks.
