"Noted. In retrospect, all these social norms were a lot easier to deal with when I had no idea what they were. How do you remember all of them?"

 

"By not having a real brain."
I answer honestly.
"But for normal people, typically they learn those by being social. You, on the other hand, were stuck in a crystal."

 

"Honestly, you can just pick wherever. I don't mind that much."

"Find a way to tear them to little pieces? I can always scout out the camp as a frost beetle to see if they have anymore weaknesses."

"I suppose we'll have to look around."

Five dozen more draconians apear in a mass-teleport. Most look beat up.
"They barely got us out. Thing is, we lost contact with them. They last told us to get out and run."
Lyla looks dumbfounded.
"Crap. If you feel up for flying, scout. Learn the terrain of this world. Stay out of sight and check for an ideal place to settle."

A dozen nod and fly off in different directions.

"That works, but try not to jeopardize yourself. We'll think of something, I have a feeling."

 

"So Vesius and Riihs are in danger, and there's virtually no way we can help them?"

"Kay. I'll leave as soon as we get there."

The cave is just a little further, a slight incline down to a large open room, by the looks of it.

 

"Well... Yeah. That's the gist of it."
Lyla looks extremely bitter.

Xephyr runs out ahead to check for traps.

 

"I think I said we...were...friends..." I say, falling to the ground, unconscious; Artemis having drank most of my blood.

"I think you overdid it on the 'Test Sample' front." Abigail says.

"B-But it was so nice!" Artemis says in her defence.

"Really? Can I taste it?" Artemis asks excitedly.

Abigail torches the flower like it's a simple task.

"Maybe we should get you a body so I can put my blood drinking powers to actual use." Artemis says, giving you a fanged smile.

 

"You want blood? Try Rineth in dragon form. It won't freeze you in time."
"Thanks, Ihra. I totally need a forest leech on me until I drop."

 

Artemis smiles at Rineth, "Can I?" She asks excitedly.

"I'm a little concerned about your love of blood all of a sudden," Abigail says, "But you're not getting mine so I guess it's alright."

 

"Don't drink too much."
He lies down.
"I didn't think you'd actually..."
"She got addicted to poisons. What else is worse? Aj's addiction to eating flesh?"

 

Oh well... I think. Seems like I will have to wait for Icicle to wake up.

 

Another flower sprouts from the ashes. "No thanks, I'll do that myself." It echoes.

 

"Knock yourself out."
I say, putting my hands behind my head.
"That was an expression, don't actually knock yourself out."

"Now we need to lead a few of these to Fellak. What sort of monster do you think will be effective against a city?"

 

"Pleased to meet you. I hope you don't mind us here, either..."

A draconian returns.
"Coast. It's almost perfect. Defendable, safe, slightly isolated."
"What about a mountain? We could see anyone from a distance."
"I'll look again."
"Thank you."

 

"I can assure you Aj becoming addicted to consuming flesh would lead to much more dire circumstances than my affinity for drinking blood," Artemis says, "I don't think you want a shadow cutting your flesh off to consume while you're still alive."

Abigail shudders.

Artemis smiles, and bites you in the neck; drinking your blood. You begin to feel a little weaker.
