"And how often was that, do you know?"

 

I shake my head.
“No idea.”

 

"Maybe you can find some old records or something?"

 

I shrug.
“We might come across some.”

 

Shadow Stephanie nods, listening.

 

"Anyhow, I figured you could use a little help back at home. I heard about the tragedy, so I called on a more humanoid machine... well, cyborg, I guess, just not human. Plus some other stuff to welcome you into the world of nonmagi."

"Well, you have me curious now, too."

 

"Is that what's in the box?" Shadow Stephanie asks, cautious.

 

"One of the things, yes."

 

"Well, if you're done with this room..."

 

"I...don't think a cyborg is really necessary, and I don't want to offend Eve." Shadow Stephanie says.

 

"He won't offend Eve, I've made sure of it. P02, come on out."

One of the walls of the box crashes open, a furred humanoid lizard-esque creature with robotic antennae of sorts and a mechanical tail that seems to be retracting a laser drill... or something.
"Hello, are you the person I was to complete my project with?"
"Oh right. Pozel-Rena is of a usually tribal species called Zakretians, and their cyborgs are called Autozakretians, or just Autos. Pozel in particular was keen on exploration, so I figured sending him to your realm would be perfect for him."
"She didn't tell me your name, though." Pozel says, offering a handshake.

"Let's go." She nods.

 

I exit the room, waiting for the Matriarch so I can close the door.

 

She heads out fairly quickly, taking one last glance around the scene.

 

It's the same, the corpses are still corpses and the clutter's still clutter.
I close the door, going down the hallway.
"Just stop me if you have an inclination to check out one of these rooms."
I gesture to the doors on the sides of the hallway.

 

Shadow Stephanie hesitates, before shaking Pozel's hand.

"Shadow Stephanie." Shadow Stephanie says cautiously.

 

"Do you prefer Stephanie, or no?" He asks, smiling.
His hand has a thin bit of fur over grey skin; it doesn't seem robotic.

"Do you mind if I paint a scene or two?"

 

"Not at all. What're you thinking of?"

 

"A split scene of that room, one with children playing, and the other what it is now. Maybe something else if I find other rooms interesting." She shrugs.

 

"Start here, then?"
I open the door once more.
