Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

I think for a moment.
“It should be the most recent portal linked to here. I don’t believe I asked the queen what she filed it as, so that complicates things, that on top of a way to get back...”
My voice drones out a bit as I finish talking.

 

"I'll look through the recent entries." Steven says, heading over to the portal frame with a laptop in hand, setting it up beside it.

 

I nod, standing by.

 

Steven brings up a terminal window on his laptop, text flying by on it.

"Does 'Thirteen Lab' sound familiar?" Steven asks.

 

"Sure does."
I smile.

 

Steven takes a wire out of his pocket with a clip on one end and a adapter on the other, plugging the wire into his laptop and clipping it to the portal frame.

A portal flickers open to your lab, stabilizing after a moment.

"There you are." Steven says, smiling back.

 

"Do you happen to have a way for us to get back? I should be able to take care of it myself, if not."

 

"I might do," Steven says, "Hey Helen, got any return crystals to here?"

"Yeah. Why?" A Shadow from the group responds.

"I need one for this automaton and his friend to get back." Steven replies.

Helen throws Steven a black crystal, which he catches and offers to you.

 

I take it.
"Thanks for your help."

 

"No problem. Hopefully we should have this portal sorted out when you get back." Steven says.

 

I nod, then head through the portal, waiting for the Matriarch to follow.

 

"Yes, they go crazy over signatures."

"Is it about my abnormal method of going about detailed analysis of biological creatures?"

If you showed her a safer place for her children, I'd be surprised if she wouldn't go look.

She sticks close, still silent.

 

I step away from the portal into the hallway.
"This is it."
The portal opens up into a hallway with metal walls lined with doors. The hallway's clearly long one way, but the other way has a closed door at the end.
"Or, well, some of it. This isn't the entrance."

 

She looks down every now and then for debris, nervous.
"Anything too sharp around here? I'd... rather not be stuck bleeding and clot it with mud once we get back."

 

"How much longer until we get to this surprise?" Shadow Stephanie asks bluntly.

 

"Longer? I don't know if it's ready. It was in a lead box about the size of the seat of your throne thing. Just about anything could fit in there. Scans showed that such a container could hold anything from five mechs to forty railguns to approximately a thousand cores."

 

"There's some glass, but I'll lead, so I'll notify you when there's anything. So, which way first?"
I offer.

 

"Glass shouldn't be too bad. Uhm..."
She takes a paint smear, puts it on the edge of her armblade, and flings it off on the ground.
It splatters towards the locked door.
"Guess we check behind door number one?"

 

I walk up to the door.
"Do you, uh, have a weak stomach?"

 

"I've seen my fair share of mutilation."
