"I don't know, I was forbidden from scanning it in detail. I can, however, confirm that it is nothing unpleasant. It also came with a box, and Lady Idhaenna also forbade me from scanning it at all. Reportedly, it contains an item called a surprise, but databanks suggest that is a placeholder name meant to distract me."

 

The guards whisper to each other, before calling for Shadow Stephanie, who eventually comes back out of the Shadow Palace. The guards quietly tell Shadow Stephanie about what was said.

"Alright, I'll go with you for this 'Surprise'" Shadow Stephanie says, though distrustful.

 

I just keep going towards the gate, maintaining lead.

 

"Wonderful!"
One of the bee's railguns turns into a wireframe, then vanishes.
"I am EBB, data collector and Lady Idhaenna's favorite construct. She says that I am more flawed than many others, but I more than make up for my shortcomings." It says, flying backwards as it offers Shadow Stephanie a handshake.

She keeps quiet, glancing around occasionally.

 

Shadow Stephanie hesitates for a moment with her handshake, before accepting EBB's handshake.

 

"I sense distrust. Did I do something biologically incorrect?" It asks, heading backwards through the portal back to the Void Palace.

 

"Don't worry about it, tinhead." Shadow Stephanie comments, following.

 

"Yeah, whatever. You're just annoyed and I'm not dealing with it."

 

"My head is made out of a simple titanium-plated steel alloy. Also, how am I not supposed to worry about entities flagged as allies showing hostility? It suggests betrayal or miscommunication, neither of which I have been made aware of."

You're annoyed and neither of us are dealing with it. And, let's face it, it does suck being stuck up here.

 

"I said don't worry about it." Shadow Stephanie says, getting annoyed.

 

"You are getting agitated, though you are not an admin with clearance to change situational emotional responses. Is there something other than not worrying I can do to ease concern?"

 

"Maybe try being less robotic?" Shadow Stephanie suggests, annoyed.

The Matriarch and I approach the gates the the Shadow Palace.

 

A group of strong guards seem to waiting behind the gates, though the usual pair wait outside them.

"What's your business here?" One of the guards asks bluntly.

 

"I am not built with the intention of interacting with biological beings. I could fetch one that is, if you would prefer indirect communication."
Pause.
"Plus, Lady Idhaenna said you had a habit of ignoring most behaviors. Is there a particular reason mine manages to irritate you?"

 

"We were hoping to use the portal room inside of the palace to get somewhere. The coordinates were set up not long ago."

 

Shadow Stephanie just shrugs.

"On what grounds?" The guard asks, suspicious.

 

"The portal being set up or us going through?"

 

"I already admitted that I don't like it here. The dragoness is nice, but still."

 

"What grounds do you stand to use the portal at all?" The guard asks.

"'ang on. I know that robot," One of the guards says from behind the gate, "'e was with the queen during the infestation. You can trust 'im."

The guard glances back at you, before opening the gate.

"Alright, don't cause any trouble." The guard says.
