"Yep, survival is hard on your own."

 

If he shifts small enough, he might be able to worm into the room unnoticed.

"Yeah. Pretty sure he's the only one other than me who doesn't go it with a partner."

 

He thinks about it, then decides to not try it, and continue spectating.

 

"Really now? All the others have a partner?"

 

"It is." Shadow Stephanie says flatly.


There's a few mountain flowers as well as a tall sapling.


The pair walk through.

"The audience here seems a lot more lively than the one we're used to." Maria comments.

"This is the beginning of a new chapter for us." Jennifer says positively.

 

"You sure there's nothing else you could do to help make it easier?"


Ruby telekinetically shakes the sapling.


"Hope you like the history books... Do you remember the twist with this arena?" One guard asks, doors to the stadium opening wide.

"Yeah, I haven't seen another solo survivor."

As the succubi enter, the crowd floods in.

 

Crystal mimics the crowd once again, entering.

 

"Not really." Shadow Stephanie shrugs.


The fire guardian throws a fireball near to it, the fireball bursting and lighting up the sapling without igniting it.


"No?" Jennifer says, sounding a little worried.

"W-We're not fighting, are we?" Maria asks.

 

"Jeez, that's gotta suck. Being on your own all the time."

 

"Eugh... that sucks."


Ruby keeps shaking the sapling before descending.
"U-uh..."


"Haha, that wouldn't be much of a fight. No, this is the Chronoseum. This is where our best fighters can compete with the best fighters that have long since passed." One guard says, showing them to a side door.

"It's lonely, but better lonely than dead."

They swarm the entryway, Crystal getting a bit pushed aside.

 

Crystal tries to see where they go after they get through, trying to get through himself.

 

"You got that right. But still, no one deserves to be alone."

 

They head to two huge sets of side doors.

"Well, I don't have a partner. You know, that wouldn't kill me."

 

As usual, he follows.

 

"You mean you had a partner that tried to kill you before? That's rough."

 

Compared to the halls, the docks are extremely busy. Crates are being carried around, people running, lots of talking and shouting, and all the other sounds.

"I understand your unwillingness, as this is indeed very sudden, and that you do perhaps have your own duties to attend to." Terrae starts, "The painting that I wish to be commissioned is a portrait of a certain goddess. If you are to accept, then you can be assured that you will receive significant compensation, either financial or material."

 

"Keeps the gears of the city turning." Shadow Stephanie shrugs.


The fire guardian jumps, taking a few steps back.


"Oh, so the people that fall can come back to try again?" Maria asks, herself and Jennifer heading into the side door.

 

"Not me, but... well, sort of. I wasn't always alone, but my partner took in a child only to have her throat cut out in her sleep that night - by that very child. I've never trust anyone I recognize since."

Ren cloaks and hides back in the hall.


Their mood changes.
"We apologize for our hesitation."
"You know that your requests take priority."
"Which goddess"
"I'm down for it, don't get to see plural gods in one day that often."

He finds himself out in rows upon rows of stadium seats.

"Well, that is a good thing..."


"S-sorry, I just..."
Ruby shies away a bit.


"Well, nobody's staying dead here. Any mythical warrior that Emerald can recreate is in here, and the arena itself draws upon the power of the Void to enable us to bring back even stronger figures. From the cutthroat gambler Nyre to the fell beast Orvalanne, we can bring it in to see if those who claim to be stronger than any hero before them, really are."

 

Shadow Stephanie shrugs.


The fire guardian seems slightly scared.


"I hope we'll be kept safe enough..." Jennifer says, worried.

 

"...Just wondering, does it make a difference whether you or Aj sign the things?"


"I, uh... you looked... uh..."


"In the extreme case something breaches your protective barrier, you'd be brought back to life when the Chronoseum resets."
