"What if something happened to her though? Like, Xlentia did erase her, or she was taken somewhere else." Shadow Stephanie asks.


"I'll try my best to keep you safe for a year then." Vexa says.

 

"Ah. I see. Well thank you."
I nod.

 

"Very. Plus, you look like a human had a long night with a wolf... what are you?"

"There shouldn't be too many left. Were you just curious, or were you looking for a book caught in a null zone?"

"If she was taken somewhere else, then she'd still be somewhere. If Xlentia erased her, Emerald would've told you."


"I'll try my best not to touch the ground for a year." Ruby chuckles, a bit nervous.


A draconian wakes Jennifer and Maria from their slumber.
"Hey, you two. Mistress Xlentia wants to talk to you immediately."

 

"No, I just don't have much of a way to get to the Shadow Palace without going in there."

 

"Yeah, that's true." Shadow Stephanie says, smiling a bit.


Vexa smiles positively.


"She does?" Jennifer asks, stretching and yawning.

"Is this about our job?" Maria asks, looking for a clothes to change into, from her (somewhat revealing) sleeping outfit.

 

"A werewolf. Is that a problem?"

 

"I don't think it's blocked, but if it is, ask Emerald to open another one."

"A werewolf? Guess you learn new things every now and then."

Ihra smiles.
"It'll be okay. We've pulled off crazier stuff in the past."


Ruby blinks a bit.
"...I will miss eating and sleeping, though."


Maria's clothes are just under her bunk.
"I didn't ask. I wouldn't keep her waiting."

 

"Never met a werewolf before? Didn't think so, you all live in your caves the entire time."

 

"I haven't, but then again, I don't get to talk much. I'm only really alive because these mountains aren't totally bloodsoaked."

 

"Where is she?"

 

"How much further until we're down?"

 

"Yeah, we have." Shadow Stephanie says, her mood improving.


"Do you feel hunger and exhaustion?" Vexa asks.


Jennifer looks for her clothes while Maria strips off her clothes unashamedly, getting changed in plain sight.

 

"Library, probably. She never really goes anywhere else."

"About a minute more, then we go up again."
Pause.
"...You tired? We could stop a bit."

"...What do you even need the paperwork for, anyways?"


"Nope, only exhaustion from running low on magic coursing through me."


They're under her bunk.
The draconian heads out.

 

"Alright."
I nod.
"Thanks."

 

"Oh, they're request forms for, uh, that mantis artist. She wanted some stuff in return for her art so I need to evaluate her requests and sign for or against them." Shadow Stephanie says.


"Well, you'll save money on food at least." Vexa says, trying to lighten the mood.


A short while later, the succubi pair head to Xlentia's chambers, having changed into their usual clothing.

 

"Yeah, no problem. Also, if you could make sure your pink friend isn't in the training room, that'd be great."

 

"Crystal? Why's that?"

 

"The Matriarch lady? I thought she already got compensation."


"True."


Xlentia's head and tail sticks out of her gold and jewel pile.
"Ah, good, you came. I hope you found my palace rather accommodative despite the commotion."

"We need everyone out of there to activate the new facility."

 

I nod.
"I'll go check."

 

"Thanks."

You're left to yourself as the guard turns to block one of the people from sneaking away.
