"Oh, please. Even with Reiglynn's interjections, this visit is very pleasant. I appreciate your hospitality."

 

"I'm hoping you won't speak poorly of me. Apparently my name is shunned on the surface."

 

"I guess." I say, shrugging.

 

“Pretty much.”
I take a good look at the strips to see how they could do better.

 

"That or your throne partner's jealous."

Nod keeps watching over her.

Some are too light, some are smeared or too heavy, some are a bit sweaty.

 

"I'm not." Shadow Stephanie says.

 

"Then why are you holding it against him?"

 

"I'm not." Shadow Stephanie repeats, though in a different tone.

 

"It happened before and the island is still there. They should be fine."

 

“Wash off and dry your hands before doing it again. Remember to not press too hard, or too light.”

 

"Oh?"

"Alright."
They head to the moat, rinse their hands, dry them, and come back.

"Right... I dunno why I'm worried. Not like I have family left right now."

 

At this point, Voidfiller’s already got new papers.
“Alright. Do it again.”

 

They comply, but all of them have flat fingerprints, one of them having ALL flat fingerprints.

 

"What? I'm not jealous of him being visited by our goddess on his birthday, or people remembering his and not mine." Shadow Stephanie says.

"I remembered, I gave you a present." I say.

"Well of course you would. Nobody else did, and there wasn't a party." Shadow Stephanie says.

 

"Well, hang out with the Ihra person some more, then... and scare everyone else less."

 

"I can't help scaring people when our species is known for genocide." Shadow Stephanie says.

 

"Well, one of you manages it just fine."

 

"No, I still scare people from time to time." I say.

 

"You're approachable enough to make friends, not scare the wits out of them."

 

"And I'm not?" Shadow Stephanie asks, offended.
