"Aww, I'm not that important. I'm just a follower of light in a realm of darkness, trying to rescue my kidnapped sister without being able to fight."

"No to living beings, and yes to bones."

 

"That sounds like the plot to a book." Rin says, smiling.

 

"Heh... I dunno. All I can do is cook, it's not like I'm really making much of a difference there."
Pause.
"...Thanks, though."

 

“Got a brush?”
I ask, taking the items.

 

The faeries smile, happy with Ali.

 

"Bones. Got it. So only that and mushroom-free logs?"

 

"Well... if you're here to help me, there's gotta be a reason the king chose you two. If the thing that makes me stand out is my cooking, what's yours?"

"Yep. Wooden stuff and bones."

 

"Alright, seems good. Now I know how to take care of them when you're gone."

 

"Oh, well, uh...I'm really good at tending to plants." Mish says.

"I can handle a lot of water at once, and I water the plants." Rin says, her nerves returning a bit.

 

"Would you be able to help me learn which plants are which, and grow some that come from my home?"

"I still won't be far. I might get some air, but I'll still be in this cave."

 

"Certainly." Mish says.

"Of course." Rin nods.

 

Ali laughs.
"Then you two are the only way I'm going to be able to keep my job!"

 

"Don't you want to spent some alone time with your husband?"

 

"Well, you seem really nice, so I'll make sure the shadow king knows you're not bad if he wants to fire you." Mish says, smiling.

 

"I do, but..."
She sighs.
"...I don't want to leave them, even if you're watching over them. You can't stop another dragon on your own."

"Thanks. Hopefully it won't get to that point, though."

 

"Despite the stories I used to hear, the shadow king seems really kind." Rin says.

 

"Yeah, you might be right. But the others are here too."

 

"He is... most of the time, at least from what I've seen."

She hesitates.
"...I still feel nervous putting the lives of my children in the hands of anyone other than me or my mate."

 

"Yeah, that's understandable. I think I'll be going back to the others then."
He gets up.

 

She sighs.
"Thanks, though. I appreciate it, really."
