Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

Ali glances around for a librarian, slowly walking in as she gets a feel for the layout of the library.

 

There seems to be a forest guardian at the front desk reading a book , presumably the librarian, or one of them.

 

Your beast form feels as warm as ever, thick fur totally blocking out the cold.

He keeps quiet.

Ali approaches them, still glancing around.
"Pardon me, but I haven't been here before. Are you the head librarian here?" She asks, whispering.

 

"No, but I'm sure I can help you out with anything you need." The librarian says, smiling as she looks up from her book.

 

I slam down on the ground with the non-spiked side of my hammer right beside his foot, hoping to crack the ground.

 

"Well, I guess I started by asking the right person, then. I'm fairly new to the realm as a whole, and the king recently offered me a job. So, uh... I guess I'll start with my first question first. Do you have books about the currency system and the local culture? I, uh... practice solar magic, so it's a bit strange for me working in so much darkness."

You put an impression into the ground, the mud slightly cracking.
"...Might I propose you try using a small rake or a paint scraper? This isn't the first time this has happened."

 

"I don't quite have that, so I'm improvising."
I do the same to the other side of him.
"I have a sword, of course, and these spikes, but you'll likely get cut."

 

"I believe we do." The librarian says, starting to type on the computer next to her.

"Ah, yes. The best books for you would probably be 217c and 4454." The librarian says, smiling.

 

Another crack.
He starts shifting about, the crack growing.
"I got it from here... and I'm sure you can find both of those in one of the farmhouses."

"Ah..."
Ali glances around for signs signifying where the books are located.
"...and my second question is what those machines are. Where I come from, we were just developing radios before we were forced underground."

 

I step away from him, putting away my hammer.
"Good to know."

 

He starts digging himself the rest of the way out.
"Yeah... so, could you get rid of this lower wall? The powder and blacklight are down at the bottom of the ramp, hidden away behind a withered root."

 

I nod, taking out my hammer.
"Right. He didn't make the wall very thick, so it won't be very hard."
I go up to the wall, and hit it hard with my hammer.

 

"Oh, they're for retrieving books. They're fairly new, but they're so you don't need to search the entire library for the book you want. You just type in the id of the book, and it'll teleport straight to the machine. They can also be used to put the books back too." The librarian explains.

 

"Oh, neat. And, uh... could you write down the ids of those two books for me?"

It turns into a steep pile of mud and rock.
"Thanks... though, if you don't mind me asking... can you check on the others?"

 

I start clearing out the rubble.
"Do you not know where the other parts are?"

 

The librarian grabs a yellow sticky note and a pen, writing down the ids of the books and offering it to Ali. "217c" and "4454" are written in blue ink on the note.

 

"We each know two, sort of as a fallback if one of us got executed."

Ali takes the note.
"Thanks... and, out of curiosity... has Emerald's library made things quiet down here even more?"

 

"Makes sense. Show me the one down here first, though."

 

He nods, heading down the ramp until you find a small mesh of withered roots sticking out of the side of the ramp.
"...Dig the roots out, and..."
After prying out the root along with some dirt, he pulls out a blacklight and a small jar of white powder.

 

"Ah."
I say, looking at the equipment.
"Do you want to keep it here to make people think you aren't full of crap?"
