Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"How so?" Solus asks.

 

"Any magic attack will do. I'm too weary to be able to dispel it from here." She sighs. "Or another portal would work, I guess. Either way."

 

"Who's touched the darts since you entered?"
I ask, standing up and turning around to count the number of people.

 

"None of us."

You count 34 people.

 

A bright portal opens in front of Emerald.

 

"Are you certain? This could be bad if you're not."

 

She bows again.
"Thanks."
The projection runs into a miscolored zone, disintegrating.

A few people look around, about eight sharing nervous glances.
"W-well, I think I did, to see what kind of feathers the dart used..."
"Same..."
"I didn't believe him, so I'm guilty of that as well."

"...Guess I shouldn't have spoken out that quick."

 

The portal closes behind Emerald.

 

"I don't care about the feathers. Raise your hand if at any point since you entered the room you touched a dart."

 

Nobody raises their hands, the eight looking guilty now looking relieved.
...Nobody even looks nervous, just confused.

She returns to her bookkeeping.


Ali stirs, looking for a good place to throw up.

 

Emerald notices a somewhat familiar looking figure in a black hooded cloak standing near the entrance of her library.


The bathroom in Ali's room seems like the best place, the toilet just visible past the door.

 

"Nobody? Good. This is good."
I head over to one of the darts, inspecting it without touching it.
"Now, here's to hoping that the culprit doesn't know much about forensics."

 

She sighs, turning.
"What, already back for round two?"


She rushes over and hurls, flushing once she's done...

After getting some water from the sink, she looks for and heads to the exit.

 

The figure disappears, leaving behind a white box.


Leaving the room reveals a hallway of doors, presumably other rooms, with an elevator nearby to Ali's left; a guard standing by it.

 

"Forensics?" One person asks, confused. "What's that supposed to mean?"

Bloody, but that's all you can see at a glance.

Emerald telekinetically opens the box from a distance, putting a barrier between it and her.


Ali heads up to the guard.
"I, uh... is the king here?"

 

The box doesn't do anything, though Emerald can't see what it contains.


"Yes." The guard nods.

 

"Forensics, scientific tests or techniques used in connection with the detection of crime. Namely, in our case, fingerprint tracking."
I turn towards the group, seeing if anyone gets nervous.

 

Emerald sends a projection to look inside, untrusting.


"Where is he, and could I speak with him?"

Everyone just looks confused, though it seems there's only 30 people left in the room.

 

Sapphire's remains seem to be in the box.


"You may. He's currently in the robotics lab." The guard says.

 

"Everything that you touch without gloves leaves a print in the form of your finger, leaving out the design of the small little lines etched into them. Everybody's design is different- or, to clarify, almost everybody's design is different. There's some cases where two people had the same fingerprint, but we're talking one-in-a-million. The chances that one of you 34, or now 30, have the same fingerprint is very unlikely. Unless there's something different with the humans in this world, which would render my plan completely useless. Anyways, everyone's design is different, so assuming that one, nobody else has touched the darts, two, the culprit loaded the darts with his hands, and three, this world's fingerprint system isn't unlike what I'm used to, we have a solid case on our hands."
I explain, making sure to take my time as to get nobody confused.
