Spring nods, seating Katie down and retrieving a plate.
"Maybe your friends could help out a bit too?"


"That's what makes me feel good... but you don't need a gourmet chef in the middle of a war."

"True. I wonder what the other Leviathan were like..."

 

"Maybe the wyvern knows about it. We should ask about it when he wakes up."
He lays down, thinking.

 

Katie waves me over.

"Yeah?" I ask.

"Could you help me get some food? I'm not feeling strong enough to get some myself." Katie asks politely.

"Sure, what do you want?" I ask.

Katie points to the seafood dishes she likes the look of, and I retrieve them for her, putting portions on her plate.

"Thanks, Aj." Katie says, smiling at me.

"No problem. If you need anything else, just call." I say, before heading over to Shadow Stephanie.


"Not when we're fighting. But, when we're tired and hungry, that's when we need you." Artemis says happily.

 

"I didn't know you had it in you to be this sarcastic, Solis."

 

“Any help helps, really.”

 

Lucy keeps quiet.


Not too cold, for a cave.

"I get that, but... what exactly can we do?"

"Figured I'd make you think you were still drugged."

Spring gets silverware for Katie, then gives her space.


Ali nods.
"Thanks. I'll keep at it... just, uh..."
She glances around to see where Shadow Stephanie is.

 

Katie starts eating, her strength slowly returning.


Shadow Stephanie is sitting on the far side of the elites with me, laughing as I seem to be proudly smiling.

 

Spring keeps quiet.


"...I'd take the job offer to work at the Shadow Palace, but I can't bring myself to work for her."

 

"Why not?" Artemis asks, glancing at Shadow Stephanie.

 

“Fight. That’s all we’re asking for.”

 

"With a bit of fur it would feel better. Wanna switch?" He thinks.

 

"Again, she's every reason I practice light magic. Deceptive, sneaky, obtrusive, narcissistic, demanding, and worst of all, merciless. I fear that if I messed up a dish, that'd be the end of me."

Why not? Let me out.

"How do we fight something stronger than what we struggled to fight in the past?"

 

"She hasn't killed any of her chefs over a bad dish. She just asks for them to re-do it in the worst cases." Artemis says.

 

Ali shakes her head.
"I'm sure that's all that anyone else knows. I don't want to be the example of what happens if you mess up."

 

"She's not that cruel to her friends, trust me. If she killed everyone who made a slight mistake serving her, the Shadow Palace probably wouldn't have guardians and half the Shadows it does." Artemis says.

 

"She doesn't consider me a friend, though... does she?"

 

"She does. We all do." Artemis says, smiling.

 

Ali seems uncertain.
"...I dunno. I still don't trust her."

 

"She won't hurt you." Artemis says.

 

"Promise to not do anything stupid."
