"Please tell me you realize I don't care."

 

"Depends on what it is, but sure."

They nod.
"What will we do with their land?"

"From what I know, yes. Not only is he capable, but he has the power of two other gods at his command."

Anne looks at you before crawling over and laying down next to you.

Cave isn't too cold. Sort of surprising. You think the Leviathan's going to kill the Ziz?

One guard smirks.
"Told you that you'd be wasting your breath."
"She can't run forever, I thought she'd cave sometime soon." His partner retorts.

 

“A friend wanted me to ask you something. Do you know what’s going on on the other side of my portal?”

 

"Considering it brought a giant freaking dragon in here once, I'm going to say no but it's going to hell damn quick."

 

"How does an entity get two gods under his control? And what gods are they?"

 

"I don't want to know what lengths one would have to go for that much power. As for the two gods, he has control over the god of all waters and god of fires. One is followed by many archmages, the other an unmatchable warrior. Fitting that the next god he would go for is the one with dominion over spirits. If you have the strongest of magic and non-magic users, control over what happens to them after death would make them unstoppable."

 

"Annexation. The more wood we have locally, the cheaper our airships can be."

 

The general opens his mouth to respond, but he's cut off by a knock at the door.

 

Katie stays in her bubble, but clearly wants the food.


"Don't feel left out, ok?" Artemis says.

 

"Enter."

 

"I don't know. They said it happened before, right? Maybe none of them got killed then or those were other guardians."

 

I chuckle.
“Well, that’s one way to put it. We’re actually fighting against a being called the Hive Master, someone who’s intent on mind controlling pretty much everything he can get his hands on, including gods.”

 

"One being holding that much power is almost unthinkable to many of my people. What the Hive Master does goes against the very laws of nature. He is treating in waters he doesn't belong to, and we must stop him."

 

I head back towards my body.

 

Spring glances at her.
"Point at it, and I'll get it for you."


"It's hard not to when all you can do is cook and cower in a corner..." She sighs.

"Thanks, captain obvious, but you've got other matters to attend to."

The flight is longer than you thought it'd be.

The mercenaries give you space, though they stick near their bodies as well.
It's still in the safehouse, but by the time you get back, the moon's setting.

"And what, you think we'd be able to slip through his grasp?"

"Other guardians? If that's the case, then... I wonder who came before the ziz."

The door opens, yet you see nobody... which implies Ren.
"Uh... hello, generals."
Uncloak.
"Bad time, king?"

 

“It’s not like he controls people with the snap of his fingers. Fighting against him actually does something, so instead of slipping through his grasp, we’re more hoping to break his hand.”

 

Katie points at most of the seafood dishes.


"Cooking is still a useful skill. Everybody needs to eat." Artemis says.

 

"If you want our help, we can't do much other than slip through his grasp."

Spring pauses.
"...I assume you don't mind that the food's a bit wet? I can't really pick anything up..."


"It's like being a wind power plant operator in a town run on wood stoves. Everyone can cook enough to get by."

 

"Maybe you could drop me down? I can stand." Katie says.


"But not everyone can cook as well as you can." Artemis says, trying to stay positive.

 

"They all come from somewhere. Maybe it runs in the family." He laughs.
