"I learn, I discover, I create. Though, I mostly make sure things are in balance." Praecantatia says.

 

"That sounds like it would be more entertaining than the role of most other gods. Does your daughter do the same?"

 

"No, though I teach her what I know and make sure she is happy. I've always let her to what she wants to do, though I've had to look after her recently after she almost killed herself from using up all her magic." Praecantatia says.

 

Gaia seems struck with guilt.
"I... believe she may have done that in a futile attempt to free another god from mind control."

 

"She mentioned something about mind control, and she seems a little psychically damaged." Praecantatia admits.

 

"I was attacked by the high god of fire, Atavul. He dove at her totem, and she tried to get him to shake his mind control by showing him the brutality the Hive Master inflicts upon innocent lives. I never had time to tell her that pain and suffering gives him more strength."

 

"That seems like an odd trait for a god of fire." Praecantatia says.

 

"God of Fire and War. I suppose forgetting half our traits does leave half of us to the imagination."

 

"Why would you need a god of war? War is not an element, it is a construct." Praecantatia says.

 

"Why? Why is beyond me. However, all of the high gods have a secondary trait. I am the high goddess of earth and life, Xlentia is the high goddess of darkness and destruction, and Virei'tus is the high god of light and divine judgement. The pattern continues for the others."

 

"Makes sense. So what should we do? Go back to the island to ask the others?"

 

"Those traits make sense. War does not." Praecantatia says.

 

"You stay here, I'll get a few others. If that doesn't work, then I'll come back and hope I can find you here."

"I think of it this way - fires burn hot, fierce, and will rip through every bit of fuel it can touch. War rages on, and like a fire, does not die until it rips through every bit of fuel in reach, or is smothered."

 

"Surely Destruction would be a much more fitting element to pair with fire, and, if war is necessary, a better pairing with Darkness?" Praecantatia asks.

 

"Wait. Here here? Shouldn't we go to Gram first?"

 

"I see what you mean, but destruction is tied to fear, which is often associated with darkness. As for fire, it leaves ashes for new plants to grow in its wake. War leaves ruins and the desire to rebuild."
Pause.
"If you destroy an entire planet, it's hard for its people to rebuild."

"Destruction is not necessarily tied to fear. Controlled destruction can open up opportunities for new life, and new creation. War does not act as ashes do. War digs up the dirt, it leaves scars that do not heal. War does not bring a desire to rebuild, war devastates and destroys." Praecantatia explains.

 

"Follow me."
He starts walking towards the place where they found Gram, holding on tight to the fruit basket.

 

"War leads to destruction all too often. Besides, all who fall in his presence rise again as phoenix, whereas all who fall around Xlentia are doomed to be forgotten by all."

"How is he? Still asleep?"
He approaches Anne and places down the basket.
