"I don't know... I sort of just thought of this."

After a while, another red dot appears.

It roars, stepping back before inhaling again.

 

"That's fortunate."

I tear off a piece of my cloak and use it to bandage the wound, putting some herbs on it to speed up the healing

 

You wind up numbing the wound over anything else.
Shame you didn't pay more attention in herbal magic.

 

"We can't go back at this point. The dragon already left, and I don't think another will be here any time soon."

 

Ignia waits for a moment before quickly flying out of the way.


Thoughts and images of the Hive Master's cruel acts invade the phoenix's mind, the people under his control turning to normal after being freed and how different they are. The thoughts begin to make the phoenix think the Hive Master is truly evil, and Gaia is an ally. The phoenix feels Stephanie's control gripping it's mind, though it only seems to show the Phoenix the true morality and cruelty of the Hive Master compared the elites, Stephanie and Gaia.

"You obey a false prophet. The hive master is selfish, he desires power for himself through others. He cares not for you, you are less than a pawn in his grand chess game. You are expendable to him." Stephanie's voice interlaced with another's rings in the phoenix's mind, heard louder above everything else.

 

It hits the phoenix.

It stumbles, then smiles.
"...W-WHERE..." They roar, trying to break the connection.

"Crap. Uhm... telepathy? Can you do that stuff?"

 

Stephanie tries to strengthen the connection.

"Break free from the Hive Master. You can be happy." Stephanie says, images of people and draconians who were rescued from the hive master and saved in the Realm of Light filling the Phoenix's mind, before being contrasted by images of the less lucky ones being slain by armies of the hive master's minions.

 

She can't, slowly losing it as she shows images of slain innocents.

 

"You have the power to break free. You have the power to be happy again. Leave the Hive Master and join those who wish to make the realities and universes a better place, instead of one controlled by a single, selfish, power hungry lord who cares not when someone falls, no matter who they were. He is evil, fight for what is right." Stephanie says, before dropping the connection as she falls to the ground, power drained and hair devoid of any purple, not even at the ends like it usually is. Stephanie's hair looks almost grey.

 

"I don't know. We never tried it."

 

It pauses, takes a step back, and exhales another jet of white-hot flame, Gaia barely able to move enough to protect Stephanie.
"

"Well, try reaching out to her. Like, convince yourself you want to talk to her. I don't know..."

 

"How the hell would I do that? Let me try something."
He starts to concentrate on the name 'Rema'.

 

Hopefully someone else can help.

I stumble out of the healer's tent, heading back towards the village entrance

 

Stephanie's unconscious body is dragged through a portal, the portal quickly closing afterwards as the elites get behind Gaia.

Ignia flies back behind the Phoenix and tries to get another red dot on her.

 

You feel something in your mind stretch, then Rema's voice.

"...Hello?"

Nemmek waits, unaware of your injury.

It runs out of breath again before getting hit by another artillery strike and retreating.

Gaia collapses.
"...Okay... t-the worst... is over..." She sighs, dazed.

 

The elites collapse too, exhausted.

 

"...Is there even anyone left to stop the seige now?" Gaia asks.

 

"Stephanie's totem is out of power, and only she would know how to use it. We're all exhausted, and the king was crystallised." Tirra says, exhausted.

 

The presence is gone, Voidfiller appearing next to me and Crystal.
“This is pretty bad.”
“Yeah, no kidding.”

 

"Boy, I feel we should head home."

I mount Nemmek and begin to ride back to the castle
