Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"Well, this paper is pretty much it. I'm to take orders from you as if they were from the King himself."

The room flickers before returning to its normal dark state.

 

"I see. Well, your service is greatly appreciated, Wesley. I'm proud to work with you."

 

I pull the level once more, looking to check if the portals are still there.

 

"The honor's all mine. I never imagined I'd get to work for an oracle... erm, seer."
Pause.
"And, on that note, that's the other news. I guess I just misinterpreted what you said, my apologies. There's a letter here for you... it just appeared out of nowhere, but I guess that's just magic."

Wesley hands you an envelope.

The portal room glows green again, and instead of five smaller portals, one large green portal is visible.

 

I step through, looking around.

 

"What if we cause a distraction to lure civilians away from that area, then we strike at the perfect time?"

 

You step through onto one solid slab of purple quartz, flowers creating mosaics/paintings on the walls which are just as big as Xlentia's palace.

A collosal chimeric stone golem stands at one end of the hall, double doors similar to Xlentia's. At the other end is a mass of faeries trying to reinforce a battered door.


"...Another visitor. She didn't even think to send me one that's alive?" The golem comments, voice booming.

"It's almost midnight. Most people are asleep."
"I get wanting to save people, but if we get caught before we crack the armory, everyone here's going to get burned with the city."
"Actually... that part of town houses Leon's old personal guard. The tyrant opted not to execute them, I guess... some of them, at least."

N nods.
"A few of them, at least. Your old door knocking signal should be subtle enough to work - what was it, three and two?"

The knocking 'signal' was four-two-three with pauses in between. It's a bit unnerving knowing shady characters know that much about what you thought was a well-kept secret.

 

Ihra can see Artemis, an arrow piercing straight through her back to her chest, being quickly carried by a couple of guards through the palace; a trail of blood in her wake.

 

"Thank you, Wesley. You may go now. Tell the king I wish to see him as well, please."

 

"No, just camping."

 

“If it’s any consolation, I sent myself.”
I say, focused more on the door than the golem.

 

“We could use the knocking signal. I believe we are ready.”

 

Ihra rushes over.
"Hey! Do you know who did that?" She asks, telekinetically removing the arrow and easily healing the wound fully as she tries to catch up.

"I will arrange a meeting with him as soon as possible." Wesley nods, heading for the door.

"Alright. Go with N."
"We'll get things ready."
"...You can keep tabs on him, no?"

"Yeah, yeah. I got 'im." N sighs.

"Strange. Has sentience in artificial intelligence come along since I was cut off?"

"Understandable. Is a map all you need, or do you also want to take a look at a few backpacks?"

 

“Possibly, but unless you watch everything at all times, you probably wouldn’t have noticed anyways. I wasn’t a very well-known project.”

 

"Not very well known, huh? That's a phrase I'm worried about hearing nowadays..."

 

"Just the map please."

 

“Don’t worry, all the orchestrators of the project are dead.”
I say, nonchalant, while still looking at the door.
“So, what’s going on here?”

 

"Well, I think you already know the answer to that."

"Alright."
They stop at a table with three different kinds of maps. One only has landmarks, one is topographical, and the other just shows good campgrounds.
"I'll wait at the register. Take your time, and I hope your trip goes well!"

 

“I haven’t been informed all that much, actually. I’ve heard that there’s attacks, and that’s about it.”

 

Please tell me I have money.
