Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"Twenty silver? I think I can deal with that."

 

"Do you have memory issues or something?" I ask.

 

"What's going on? The king has requested an audience with me."

 

I'll scale the wall and give both guards on top a massive migraine.

 

"Only about a day's work. You could probably get that just about anywhere." They shrug.

The two on the ground wind up faster than you expect.
"Hey! What's your name and why're you here?" They bark, blocking you.

"I know... he just needs a minute on his own, he said. If you don't mind waiting a bit..."

"I have memory issues after not sleeping for a month." Alice shrugs.

 

"You should probably rest then." I say.

 

"Artifacts. A few jewels. One thing every few months, just to keep your guard off my back and keep my family fed."
Pause.
"...Also, not to brag, but I swiped a few poisons meant for your goblet a few times. Sold them back on the black market."

"Yeah, I'll head home. Don't think I won't try and follow you again, though. I might not be the most lawful shadow, but you're still of my concern." She yawns.

 

"Oh, of course. I can wait. Tell me when the king is ready."

I wait outside the throne room, silently meditating while i do so

 

"That's kind of sweet." I say, smiling.

 

"Maybe.. I could ask the innkeeper, but I don't know if he wants to." He scratches his head.

 

Two minutes later, the guard taps you on the shoulder.
"He's ready, my apologies for the wait, Aradius."

"You could always trade in your old crossbow frame." They suggest.

"Just because I don't like listening to you doesn't mean I don't care about you." Alice shrugs.

 

"Sounds like some kind of hateful romance." I say.

 

Alice chokes a bit.
"...You're taken and you're not my type." She grumbles.

 

"I know, I was just commenting on it. I love Artemis with all my heart." I say, smiling at Artemis, who smiles back.

 

"Okay, just making sure."
Pause.
"...On the bright side, I thought you and the queen wanted me in prison, anyways, and now it doesn't sound like that."

 

"Why would we want you in prison?" I ask.

 

"Ignoring laws, duh. You know, actions that define crimes?"

 

“What would be your reason for assisting me, if I have imprisoned you twice?”

 

"Psh, you're not doing anyone any harm. Besides, you're inside me most of the time, I think that's prison enough." I say.

"Eugh." I say, still grossed out by saying it.

 

"It's not your fault if I'm breaking the law day in, day out, now, is it? You in the throne was a lot better for my family, and if I can't have an honest life of my own, then I'll backstab whoever I need to in order to see that my children do."

Alice scoffs.
"Well... you're not wrong. Also, you and the queen really were worked up when I quit. Is a girl not allowed to retire?"
