"That's... never mind. I wanted to ask if you knew why Abigail's friends didn't just take the other half of Abigail and leave me to die. It's clear they still don't like me much."

 

"They value you as a living being equally or more than they do the heart and soul of Abigail, and thus, would like to preserve both." Eve says.

 

He takes the quiver and gives the guard the arrow heads.
"Thanks for the advise."

 

Ruby looks down at the ground a bit before sighing.
"...They sure put a lot of faith in me, then."

"Yeah, no problem. Travel safe, shifter." They say happily, waving.

As the sun rises, you wait near your body to return to the physical plane. It's been a good night, and you feel refreshed after luring a few lost souls into becoming a feast, but you still need to get moving. Some of the people who want you dead found your physical body last night, and it'd be easier to get moving than hold your ground against another hunting party.

Finally, you regain your five senses as the warm sun peeks through the forest canopy. Now's the time to make your move; flee, hide, or give them the fight they want.

You feel another prayer reach out to you from your former kingdom. They yearn for the tyrant king to be overthrown, and hope that anyone will hear their pleas.
They didn't expect you would be the one receiving them.

Their wellbeing is in your hands; you can stay and watch from afar, you can return to your people, or reach out to speak with the goddess who granted you a place among the stars.

There's a knock on your chamber door.
"Aradius, sir? If you're free, the king would like to hear about your latest prophecy."
Wesley, just another servant in the castle... but he was assigned to be your assistant. Of course, you don't need much help, but you appreciate his efforts.

Well, you are free, but you hoped to go out and talk with a Galer elder later today. You haven't arranged anything yet, but you'd have to put that talk on hiatus if you tell Wesley you're free.

 

"You've changed." Eve says.

 

"That doesn't undo what I've done to wrong them."

 

"Good day, gentlemen."
He heads of to the armory.

 

"Your body may have performed the action, but your heart did not." Eve says.

 

The armory, as should be expected, has dozens of armed and armored guards.
"Afternoon. Do you have any business here?" One asks.

Ruby nods.
"...I feel like Ihra's rubbing off on them a bit."

 

"It is impossible not to influence someone with your actions, even if that influence is very little. Clearly Ihra's good nature has changed the views and actions of the group she accompanies." Eve says.

 

"Sorry Wesley, I've already have appointments scheduled for today. Tell the king I'll attend to him as soon as I return. Thank you."

Wesley is a good kid. I strap on my boots and prepare to leave for the elder

 

"...No offense, but in that case I hope she spends a little more time with other beings than shadows."

"Alright, I'll let him know. Do you need me to do anything else for you? Maybe prepare a horse?" He asks.

 

"She has spent time with guardians and myself. I'm sure Abigail shall tell you she only wishes to be her friend after Ihra's negative view of her." Eve says.

 

Ruby smiles.
"I might have to ask her about that."

 

"Fetch Nemmek as you go by. It's always important to have a noble steed

 

"Is that all you wanted to ask me about?" Eve asks.

 

"He will be ready at the castle gates in three minutes." Wesley says before you can hear him jog off.

"No, actually. I wanted to ask you if you knew why you're always kept cooped up in the Shadow Palace."

 

I'm happy that Wesley was chosen to serve me. He's always very timely.

Before setting out, I send a quick prayer to the heavens, and leave for my horse.

 

"I'm called out on missions seen fit for me, but the Shadow Palace is my home. One of the reasons I'm kept there is for protection, as, if in the extremely low probability chance it happens, I'm captured and my parts are able to be observed, a lot of powerful technology would fall into my captor's hands," Eve says, "Though the chance of me not being able to defend myself, and my parts being observable is less likely than the Hive Master dying from the very foam bullet I attempted to shoot at you when it landed."

 

The castle halls are emptier than usual, but that just helps save daylight.

Sure enough, as you reach the gates, Nemmek waits for you - saddled and all.
Time to head off into the forest.

"That seems a bit ridiculous. That's like saying Peridot needs to stay home because he's at risk of being kidnapped while he's out on a walk." Ruby comments, slightly confused.
