Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

Ihra sighs, scratching behind Onyx's ears again.

"She's the most effective at what she does, but everything she does comes with an undesirable tradeoff. Speak to her at your own risk."

 

"Undesirable tradeoffs? Like what?"
He asks confused.

 

I put my cards aside dealing Ihra an ace and me a nine.

 

Onyx continues to sleep, purring slightly.

 

"Binding your soul to a demon, or giving up part of your soul or mind."

Ihra leaves Onyx be.

As usual, she looks at the other card.

 

She gets a king.

 

"...You said the word is freeze, right?" She asks.

 

"I talked about the word for 'draw' being 'hit'. I've heard some people use 'don't draw' as 'freeze'."

 

"Okay... then, freeze."

 

"All right."
I think for a bit before drawing another card, then frowning.
"You first."

 

She turns over her cards.

 

I turn over mine, which end up being a two, a three, and a seven. After seeing her cards, I put mine off to the side.

 

She follows your lead.
"What other card games are there?"

 

"Well, there's Rummy, or War, for a few, and other things to do with cards, like tricks or stacking."

 

"Ooh, tricks? Like magic tricks?" Ihra asks, intrigued.

Part of you misses the time when Ihra was more like this - a blissful young girl who wasn't so worried about the war...
She has grown into her role a bit, though.

 

“Yeah. I know a few.”
I take all the cards back, shuffling them.

 

"How many? I wanna see them all, if it's not too much."

 

"Sure. Go ahead and shuffle the deck for me."
I slide Ihra the deck.

 

She mixes up the cards, though not particularly well. Most of her time is spent trying not to drop them everywhere.
"...Okay, I think they're mixed up enough."

 

“Well, we’ll take a look at them.”
I say, fanning the cards out facing up and combing through them. Sure enough, they’re scrambled.
“Looks mixed enough to me.”
