Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"They probably get along really well if she allows him to drive around on her back."

 

The mother dragon roars again as Sgavrinn gets near Artemis, extending her wings outward to make her look much larger, before flapping gusts of wind toward Sgavrinn.

 

He braces, hiding behind Artemis and whimpering.

"Pretty sure Ren would be dead otherwise." Anne chuckles.

The Leviathan is visible approaching in the distance.

 

"Yeah probably. Maybe he's incredibly strong, but I doubt it."
He waves at the Leviathan.

 

It speeds up a bit.

"He seemed like a fairly normal human to me." Anne shrugs.


The leviathan slows as it gets close, turning to lower itself as close as it can to the rocks.
"I figure I should congratulate you two for surviving the night!"

 

"He's a friend, he means you no harm." Artemis says, hugging Sgavrinn and petting him lightly while looking the mother dragon in the eyes.

The mother dragon exhales strongly, walking back into her nest.

 

He nuzzles Artemis, flustered.
"Who is she?" Sgavrinn asks, shaking a bit.

Ihra steps towards the den, curious as she tries to peek inside.

 

"Yeah, that's what I thought too."

He looks at the Leviathan.
"It went better then expected, to say the least."

 

"That's good. In that case, are we heading back to the island?"

 

"A dragon my mother helped when her young where just eggs. She said for me to go see her to make sure nothing bad had, or would, happen." Artemis explains.

The nest appears to be much larger than the entrance would suggest, the dugout of the hill descending into what could be considered a large cave filled with plantlife, moss and a small pool of water at the edge, water seeping through the deep dirt bringing it's minerals with it.

The mother dragon appears to be curled around her young in the nest, one of them still a little more active while it's siblings appear to be more relaxed. A few animal bones lie in a pile near to the dragons, though Ihra can see a small fruit tree with a few ripe fruit near to the pool, as well as a few rotting ones that seem to be mostly eaten.

 

"Why does she think I'm going to make something bad happen, then?"

Ihra taps her staff quietly at the mouth of the cave, alerting the mother of her presence as she takes a single step in.

 

"The one with the prophet, yes."

 

"I think she believes you're a rogue male coming to kill her children so she may bear your own." Artemis says, glancing toward the nest.


The mother dragon looks up, before resting her head again, the more active dragonling using it's wings to assist it's jump over it's mother, running over to Ihra and breathing an odd mist on her. The mist appears to cause plantlife to flourish around Ihra, as well as healing any of her wounds.

 

"Why would I do that?! That's cruel!"

She pats it gently on the head, walking deeper into the cave.

 

"Well, I don't think she's really 'smart' enough to know that. Animals here focus on survival and protection of their young, and the father of her children obviously isn't around to protect her and ward off predators, so she must feel threatened by you." Artemis explains.


The cave feels mildly warm, warm enough to stave off the cooler temperatures of the outside, but not too hot. Ihra feels something grip onto her back before the dragonling climbs onto her shoulder, stretching it's tiny wings a bit before resting, giving Ihra's face a small lick.

 

"That's sad..." He whines.


She gently scratches its back a little, wary.

"She's not here anymore, but that'll be my first stop. Any preference where I drop you off?"

 

"It's alright, you didn't do anything wrong." Artemis says, petting Sgavrinn.


The dragonling seems content and the mother dragon doesn't seem to mind, giving Ihra a short, lower pitched hum-growl appreciatively.

 

Calming down, he curls up around Artemis.
"Did you know that werewolves have funny dreams? I met one when Ragnyon went to give visions."


Ihra is startled by the growl, freezing up. Only after a moment of thinking does she continue, but only for a minute. She picks up the hatchling gently and brings it over to its mother, taking the opportunity to get a look at the other youth.

 

"They do? I would think they'd not be able to sleep much at all." Artemis says happily.


The mother seems happy with Ihra, moving herself around to let Ihra into the area she's curled around with her young.

The active dragonling Ihra puts down seems to calm down quite quickly, resting it's head on what seems to be the smallest of the young, asleep on it's side. The other dragonling seems only partially asleep, lazily looking up at Ihra as it lies on it's front. Two small green-white nubs appear to be atop it's head, which appear to be lacking on the other dragonlings, presumably nubs of horns.

 

"He keeps dreaming about me! Isn't that weird?"


Ihra shakes her head.
"No, I'm fine. I want to check on the other dragon, but I want to make sure that your young are okay. Apparently there aren't many dragons here?"
