Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"Why would you? If they wanted to see in the future, atleast have them work for it."

 

Her body screams for air, pain surging through her body as she tries to keep from screaming.
...but she still has a long ways to go.


Nothing happens, though you make another scratch as you pull the ladder on top of the wall.

"That's greedy. Why should I make peering into the future more difficult than it already is?"

 

"Why would you do it if it's too difficult for you?"
Pause.
"If it's difficult to do, making them work for it makes you able to do it less. If that makes sense."

 

Stephanie keeps swimming, despite her weakening.


I try scratching away at the wall with the ladder, attempting to scratch 'Aj' into the wall.

 

"It... isn't too hard. I just... can kill myself if I do it too much."

Ten seconds feel like hours, and her legs start making a few involuntary movements as she fights to keep it in.
She's now about two thirds to the top, from her deepest point.


It's a bit hard to keep the ladder under control, but you succeed.
Nothing happens, but hey, anyone who ever comes back here will know someone named Aj got on top of this wall.
Wherever the hell this is...

 

"That's right. If you do it too much, you die. So if you have them look for you, you won't be in danger of killing yourself."

 

"But, I can always say no. And I have a dragon with me, so nobody messes with me."
Pause.
"Except for full armies."

 

Stephanie accidentally breathes in a bit of water, but she struggles onward, not ready to give up just yet.


I lift the ladder up, aiming to use it as a weapon as I carry on searching the wall.

 

"Wait, armies? They don't except 'no'?"

 

Swimming becomes harder, but her vision dons a tint of blue, and her pain starts to fade.


There's nothing to use it as a weapon on, but it's as tall as the wall. You'll be able to climb back up if you take the ladder with you down the outside of the wall.

"Armies don't accept 'no,' but they do accept spontaneous combustion."

 

Stephanie struggles more, desperately trying to reach the surface before she passes out and drowns.


I just keep looking around the wall for something like a lever or discarded key.

 

"What do you mean by that? They just ask you to look into the future and don't care if you die?"

 

"No, I call upon my friends to melt them from the inside, out."

With the last shred of her strength, she reaches the surfa-
Glass? Uh oh...


The wall's pretty plain, but the overhang blocks your view of the outside of the wall.

 

Stephanie desperately tries to break through the glass, even using her weapon to try and break it.


Realising I now have the only ladder that can reach up the wall, and I'm on top of the wall, I decide to spend a bit more time on top of the wall searching around.

 

"Oh.. so you kill them if the don't except 'no'? Hmm.."

 

Her weapon isn't there anymore...
Field of vision shrinking. Pounding at the glass isn't doing anything. Something's gotta give...


Even your closest inspection reveals nothing more about the wall. It's just one smooth stone slab.
...Oh, right. The creeps are getting really close. If the entrance wasn't open, and if you didn't take the ladder, you'd probably have issues.
However, you also seem to know that the relic is not... here. You were drawn to the fort... but here? Nothing.

"I don't, my friends do. But, yeah, essentially. If they harass me, they don't for long."

 

Stephanie's too weak to continue, and her lungs fill with water. She reaches her hand out toward the glass before she blacks out, claimed by a watery grave...

...Yet a part of her holds on, not ready to give in.


I watch the creeps smugly, staying atop my wall.

"I guess I understand why some people think we need to build a wall." I say to myself.

 

"Harassment?! That's just..."

 

She wakes to a thump.


You've got about a minute before they start piling on top of themse-
and they're climbing the wall as if they were still just walking.

"I told you, if they don't take no for an answer, then I wait to see if they harass me. If they harass me, they stop living. Simple as that."

 

"So who are those friends of yours? Dragons, vixen perhaps?"
